Okay. You're entitled to your opinion, and there's loads of historians and others that think he does. It's all opinions homie, something you need to learn. Just because YOU say it's so, doesn't mean it is, because it's all opinions.Comment

I'm trying to get you to argue otherwise. Of course it's down to opinion but you've not really presented much for me to think my opinion is wrong.Comment

actually I agree with Barnburner here. Jack Johnson indeed ducked all the great black fighters when he became champ. It was convenient for him to draw the color line when he had the title cause he only had to fight white fighters. Basically Johnson was a ducking machine because of that. Same with Jack Dempsey by the way.Comment

I agree, Dempsey ducked Greb and Harry Wills. Harry Wills is negotiating with Dempsey in my avatar.Comment

Well you throw age into factor and a guy being green, so that means we should discredit Roy for beating Hopkins when both were young right???
I'll give you the Jeffries thing, even though it was a hueg fight, Jeffries was coming off a monumental layoff. Fitzsimmons was still a top fighter, age or not. It's like discrediting someone for beating Hopkins in 40's just because he's in his 40's. He's still a top fighter and it's still a good win.
And with fighters jumping weight classes on the regular back then, from MW to HW routinely, it's very easy to discredit tons of guys resume's from back then. That's all I was saying.
But it's still opinions. Not Johnson, but Jack Dempsey is one of the more overrated HW's in my eyes. By the way, I didn't have Johnson near the top, I'd have him on the back end of the list. And as far as HW's, hands down Muhammad Ali is the greatest HW.Comment

If you look at Jeanette and McVey they were more green than Hopkins.Well you throw age into factor and a guy being green, so that means we should discredit Roy for beating Hopkins when both were young right???

I don't blame him for fighting Jeffries it was a huge event that be benefited from. I do have a problem however when it's used to enhance Johnson's legacy as quite frankly it was never going to be competitive, unless you asked a bigoted white man who was still having wet dreams when thinking about Jeffries own midget bashing glory days.
Hopkins is good for 40 something years old though and is the same weight class, Fitz still weighed about 170 and had lost to the last decent opponent he faced in Philly Jack O'brien.
I know people jumped weight class on the regular back in the day but, that doesn't condone using Ketchel as an amazing win for Johnson. Although people hopped weightclass they still were only successful for the most part when facing much lesser fighters.
I agree Muhammad Ali is the best HW and a candidate for Top 10 P4P. Johnson isn't in the same league as him though.Comment
