The context doesn't matter. Leonard fought an ATG near his prime. Mayweather is fighting a good fighter definitely past his prime. The context matters little, the quality of opponent can't be compared. Not fighting one ATG because you are fighting another ATG isn't worth as much criticism as fighting a decent past prime fighter instead of an ATG.

DIsagree completely. Not being revisionist, at the time, SRL fought a LW/JWW coming up to avoid fighting the other ww champion. Yes duran is a ATG. But SRL chose small and great over big and great. The trolls on this site said floyd did this with Hatton and he is essentially doing same with Cotto.

I find that mentality nauseating and would hope you do as well.

I certainly agree that he isn't in the discussion as greatest ever. But I also agree with the poster champ that whenever the discussion involves floyd the standard changes.

Only with those that hate on him. For the rest of us we are holding him to the standard that Ellerbe and many others on this site have at various times decided to hold him to, which is to say he is in the conversation of greatest of all time.

That standard is there, whether people think it's fair or not to modern fighters it is there, and the standard shouldn't be lowered for modern fighters just because they don't do what Robinson and Armstrong and Greb and those at the top did.

You have people on here saying Floyd has to fight Fighter A and Fighter B and arm wrestle a polar bear to crack "their top 20-25". I challenge anybody with a top 25 to name 25 fighters better than Floyd without name dropping names of cats they HEARD about. This generation of fans are so fickle and filled with haters. To be fair, in order for you to fully grasp the finer things in boxing (i.e. distance, feints, traps, waist movement, foot placement, etc) I'll throw you a bone and say you'd have to be around 9-10 years old to start understanding that. If you've seen close for 60+ years the BEST, one of two things should have occured in your 70+ years on Earth.....1) You wouldn't go around saying words like DUMBO...and 2) You would know how to spell EVEN by now.

Who gives a **** about what historians think? If he beats Pacquiao and Martinez I will rate him as the greatest of all time. With his boxing skills and abiltiy (unparalleled by anyone in the history of the sport), and if he beat Pac and Martinez his resume would be good enough at that point still undefeated. Mayweather would be the G.O.A.T
