Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Sees Mayweather vs Canelo as Record Setter

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer first planted the seed more than two years ago for the possibility of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez one day getting a crack at pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. At the time, the move was viewed as means to simply build the name of a young fighter still on the way up.

What sounded preposterous at the time is now dangerously close to becoming a reality. [Click Here To Read More]

Welterweights against jr .middleweights? Come on!! There are plenty of challenges in Canelos weight to be cherry-picking on welterweights... We've had enough with Gomez and Hatton... IDK how much weight Berto gains the night of the fight, but if he doesnt lose speed he might have the punchers chance...

    Canelo-Kirkland has to be NEXT!

Did you start watching boxing a few days ago? At this stage it is more about business than it is about boxing. Which ever fight generates the most bucks will be pursued over any other possibility.

GBP would rather have Canelo lose to Mayweather than against a dangerous opponent like Kirkland. Canelo-Mayweather is going to happen and the most likely date would be May 5 2013 and all sorts of records will be broke on that day.

A Canelo-Kirkland fight will be a much more entertaining fight but do you really think GBP cares about the boxing fans? How the hell is Oscar trying to act like Mosley has a shot at beating Canelo. Mosley is getting paid to get whooped on May 5 and that is the sad part of this whole circus. SSM has now retreated to being the gate keeper for young up starts to raise their stock.

If this fight happens in December 2012, Canelo has to fight a Top SWW in September, someone like Cotto-Molina-Kirkland-Lara, or it's not a good fight then. If Canelo can beat a Top SWW, than the fight is good in my eyes.

I know Canelo has a big mexican following, but is it really that huge? To be record setting?

Can't be bigger than Floyd vs Oscar.

I wonder if people will buy it because they'll actually think he'll win?
