Seems like it. He took a huge hit when he struggled with Margarito, got knocked down by Mosley and then went on to lose to Marquez. His fanbase doesn't really follow boxing, they only follow him and they were attracted to his explosive knockouts. When a fighter starts to decline, the real fans stay but the bandwagon fans start to leave. This is what we are experiencing with Pacquiao's fans.
Compared to his peak level he is down a bit but at the very least he is still the number two man in the sport in terms of appeal, so I don't know how you can really knock that.
Plus boxing is very much what have you done for me lately so all that ails his career can come back around should he beat up on Bradley~
last fight did 1.4 mil , on tv representing henessy
fighting a top 10 p4p opponent next
in short , NO!
Thats not true...His numbers were so bad that Arum told Fat Dan he will NO LONGER release them...Pac didnt get any ppv buys because he fought bums....he got the same numbers he got for the Clottey fight for both marquez and Mosley
what I can say for sure is that losing to Marquez has destroyed a portion of his ******ed fanbase. No doubt in my mind that's apart of the reason why he doesn't seem as important these days, many cheerleaders are gone
Absolutely...he used to have this aura of invincability...he was too fast, and too strong for anyone to beat him...but see now, He has fallen off, and Floyd has been getting better and better each Fight...and people start to realize, "Wait a minute...Floyd is undefeated"...Floyd actually HAS that aura of invincibility...and he had the showstopping KO Over Ortiz that made the WHOLE world stop, and now he's gonna put boxing back on the map...If he Gatti's Cotto like I think he will, Floyd seem like this unstoppable demigod..his defense is different now...now he is an offensive fighter that u cant land a punch on...there has never been a fighter in history that could be described in that way...so I think Pacman is over, Floyd has just started...after 41 fights, he just started all over again, improving his style, punching power, aggression..This is Floyd's sport now...he owns it
Agree with most of this.
Pac is the entertainment, Floyd is the sport in a sense. I think Pac having these commercials, etc is irrelevant to be honest with you. Many top level athlete have the ability to do commercials, push a product, etc. Pac is not relevant because an ad says he is. He's relevant because he's one of the top guys in the sport.
Let's look at it this way...
Who's more relevant? A guy who sells a product (Pac, Hennessy for example)..or a guy who markets and essentially sells himself (Floyd)? Personally, none. Only the fanatics care, but what's relevant is who's the better fighter. Pac has lost the edge as the only challenger left for Floyd, and is therefore less relevant in the sport IMO. Pac is still a celebrity, but he needs to win back his relevancy to the sport. This Bradley fight can do that and I'm rooting for him.
