Comments Thread For: DiBella Discusses Sergio Martinez's Options 160 and 154

We recently welcomed Lou DiBella to The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show. The rambunctious promoter gave us his take on the future of Sergio Martinez who in his last fight came from behind on the scorecards and knocked out Mathew Macklin on St. Patrick's Day. DiBella said that his fighter always aims to please the fans and doesn't mind rolling the dice inside of the ring. [Click Here To Read More]

One of the best if not the best athlete right now... No amateur background, started boxing late, exciting to watch, can punch and can take a punch... what more can u ask for in boxing? I don't know how people can really hate on this guy. Sergio is all we need in boxing! hope he gets the shot and KchavezTFO...

Dibella sounds really ****** in here!!

"they should move up in weigh to fight sergio"... Why don't Sergio moves up to 168? There are some really good fights there to make

Because he's already moved up and is currently in said weight class.

I agree with everything else you said though. Sergio widely recognized as being higher on the "p4p" ratings than anyone above him, along with being a bigger name than Ward imo (Bute has a marketable name in his country, and a big following so gotta give him that), so it really makes no sense for him to be the one moving up. They should move down for him, the same way Martinez is willing to move down for Floyd and at one point, Pac. Ward has put in work at 168, but they were all fights he should have won and he still hasn't beat the other "top" guy in the division.

Why does DiBella insist on kissing Floyd's a$$ and insisting he'll take the Martinez fight when it's obvious, even to a layman, that Floyd would NEVER in a MILLION YEARS fight Sergio Martinez? Seriously, is DiBella moonlighting for Floyd, trying to improve his credibility? Surely he knows Floyd won't fight a beast like Martinez. After Cotto, in all likelihood, he's returning to 147 lbs. Keep dreaming, Lou, but sucking up to Jr makes you look like an amateur.

Hes getting old and nobody seems to have interest in fighting him... except for nobodies. Either you take whats available or u keep dreaming... Every time Martinez-Chavez negotiation fails, the older Martinez is getting just for waiting on a paper champ to grow some balls

haha, you shouldn't have said that. Cue Mushahadeen. I'm surprised he hasn't replied yet.

But that's exactly the reason he shouldn't move up. At 160, he's at least in the conversation for guys like Cotto and Floyd. Maybe even Canelo, and most likely chavez jr. He's too old and has too much to lose to move up to fight guys with lesser names than him that he'd most likely lose to. I think it'd be one thing if he had already fought at 168, but he hasn't and seems too small imo.

Ironically, there is a large segment of mutants that want others to believe that Mayweather has ducked every legitimate challenge throughout his career. Yet, Team Martinez has completely given up on a fight with Pacquaio, who is supposedly a take-on-all-comers warrior and have their hopes set on Mayweather, who supposedly won't fight anyone with a pulse.
