    Hopkins is good, but overrated
he controlled a weak MW era
he gets credit for going up and getting the LHW title
but he skipped over SMW when it was heating up to do so
don't think he can stand up to Lamotta

moving up two weight classes and fighting the #1 guy at age 41 at a much more decorated weight class is much more impressive then moving up one weight class to 168 which has very little history at all and until recently has always been a stepping stone division. And by "heating up" what exactly do you mean? There was Calzaghe & Kessler, not exactly huge names in the states.

Hopkins has his claim at MW, everything else is extra
beating Joe at SMW after he got his big win over Lacy woulda been big
Joe's an overrated ****, but at SMW, it woulda meant more than at LHW
he had said he'd do that to keep Joe from passing the defense record
Kessler had hype on him just for being unbeaten with 2 belts
he coulda whopped them, then went after Tarver

you're somehow assuming joe had the courage to fly across the pond at that time though. Remember his fear of flying? Which suddenly disappeared after hopkins/jones were in their 40's...

Regardless, this would have had to happen before or after taylor? I'm sure if hopkins new he'd lose to taylor he would have fought in wales or wherever to fight calzaghe.

Yes I know who Jake Lamotta is, and Hopkins would school him.

if lamotta is the same size as hopkins with equal talent, hopkins loses easy...

                  Hopkins.

I think many people who say Lamotta probably have never seen him fight and just nuthug all old school fighters anyway. Anybody with common sense can see that Hopkins would win, and easily at that.

Lamotta was great for his time, but boxing has evolved since the 1940's just like any other sport.

Be ready for the hounds to jump on you. People get really pissy when this argument comes up, I know from experience... but well said I agree with you.

Good Head movement? When I watched him I remember thinking he has the worst head movement I have ever seen. Probably one of the easiest to hit fighters of all time. Chin was absolute granite though. Prob best chin I ever saw.
