Comments Thread For: Juan Manuel Marquez is Ready, Weighs in at 144-Pounds

Former three division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39KOs) looks ready for battle. The Mexican star took part in a seven day weigh-in at the Romanza Gym. Under the watchful eye of trainer Nacho Beristain, Marquez weighed in at 144-pounds, only four pounds above the junior welterweight limit for the fight with Sergey Fedchenko (30-1, 13KOs) on April 14th at the New Arena Mexico in Mexico City. The vacant WBO interim-junior welterweight title will be at stake.

He looks pudgy. It's safe to say he probably didn't use the conditioning coach he used for the last Pacquiao fight.

I'm curious to see how he fights this time. Hopefully he's learned his lesson that you can't coast to a free win while being backed up pot shotting the entire fight. You have to be the aggressor. This is definitely not worth a PPV buy but I will most likely stream it.

No you dont. You have to win the fight. And that's what he did against Pacquiao.

Looks like Marquez will always be a LW.

He can't grow into 140. His skills will keep him in any fight.

But he could fight at 135 easy.

Juan looks like he's in good shape just a little fat around the edges that you expect from a fighter his age. He will be ready for war.

Uh, yes you do. In order to take one's belt you need to be the aggressor. Had Marquez actually been aggressive, landed combinations, showed ring leadership etc. then he would have gotten better scores by the judges. But in the end they all saw what most of us saw, Pac dominated and reconfigured JMM's face.

He showed ring generalship by outboxing Pacquiao over 12 rounds. You dont have to be the aggressor to win a fight.

Ineffective aggression doesn't count. Ask Pacquiao.
