Yeah, because if 2 of the 3 most popular fighters in the world fight on ppv **** on the fight and don't buy it because that will surely encourage promoters and networks to put on better matchups in the future.

That logic is ridiculous. If you don't watch a floyd v cotto fight, why the hell would anyone invest money in two lesser known fighters or a better quality fight that wont generate much profit? Lets invest heavy in floyd v sergio because so many people didn't buy floyd/cotto.

Let's not pretend Mayweather is forced to act the way he does. He chooses to act that way, he's just like his Dad 'the best of not this time, that time, all time...blah, blah, blah'and by the way Cotto and Pacquiao...they can get away with being Nice Classy Guys...because they have an entire Country Backing Them
Ricans and Pinoys are going to support them no matter what...American Fans are much different, not just towards Mayweather but through out the history of boxing, it has not been many American Fighters that EVERYONE LOVED...Compared to other countries who for the most part, they all take PRIDE in their fighter...America is a lot different, they go by Race, Religion, Skin Color, City/State your from/representing and all these other things other then just your Skills in the Ring

I disagree with the way you are applying his stance. You have to understand the fans wanted PBF vs Manny and they both said no to the fight IMO. Both sides has stuff with them but PBF crazy for the no PPV money offer and I am a huge PBF fan. But if the fans don't buy either fight the fighters and the promoter know that the only way they can get paid is to give the fans the fights they want to see cause that is the only fights that the fans will pay for.Comment

nobody ever said he was "FORCED"...but he would not have been the Superstar that he is today and the draw that he is today without it, same for Ali if he did not talk trash, same for Mike Tyson if he did not do or say the crazy things he did
Prime Example in boxing today...Andre Ward is as classy as they come in boxing today outside of the ring AND HE STILL GET A LOT OF HATE and a lot of Negative Reactions from fans, even when he has had no head butts nor has he clinched as much in his last 2 Fights and STILL DOMINATED THOSE FIGHTS!
Timothy Bradley is another guy that is "CLASSY" and while he was fighting in the 140 Division the guy was getting NO RESPECT and people was hyping up and rating guys like Ortiz, Khan and Alexander over him
and to even take it back POST ALI...Larry Holmes was very classy, he did not become as big as Ali!

Has this strategy ever worked? No. In theory I understand and respect the point. But you and dirk seem to think the competition is what is being sold. IMO its the fighter.
If Gatti was still alive and you did a Gatti Ward 4, no matter how good the other 3 fights were, the lack of name recognition of these fighters means the fight wouldn't sell more than 300-400k on ppv, even though its clear the 2 of them fighting each other is pure gold.
But its always been charismatic fighters and not great matchups that has sold seats. Sometimes we get lucky and get ALi-Frazier I or SRL-Hearns 1.
It sucks but Chavez Martinez is always gonna outsell Martinez Golovkin or Martinez Pirog. Not buying Chavez Martinez is not gonna force Martinez to fight the best MW. If anything, it makes him fight a Manny or floyd at a BS catchweight for more money.Comment
