Yea Oscar low balled Floyd. I think Floyd wanted at the most 50/50 or maybe at the least, don't remember. The first fight was like a 70/30 split in favor of Oscar. I think Oscar was only willing to do a 65/35-60/40 split for the rematch. But, Floyd felt and rightfully that he deserved more since he was a big part of the first fight breaking revenue records.
And, he was right. The rematch Floyd deserved 50/50, Oscar wasn't willing to give it to him. Everything was going they were going to fight in September, on Mexican Independence Day weekend at 147. Oscar picked Forbes as a tune-up to get ready for Floyd style, even did it at a catch-weight of 150 so it could be a smoother transition to 147. But, Oscar wouldn't budge on giving Floyd what he deserved. And, Floyd wouldn't let Oscar short change him. So Floyd walked and retired.
And, thank God Floyd didn't let Oscar low ball him. That would have been a terrible rematch. There was no need for it. It was just money. Floyd proved in the first fight that Oscar wasn't on his level.
But, I don't think that is what that fan boy is talking about. Since Oscar nor Floyd was Arum fighter during this time.
This entire post is on the money. Floyd has actually mentioned that walking away for a while was a smart business move, which the ******s construed as ducking fighters, but what he actually was referring to was that when he returned he would be more popular than ever and command more $$$$.
Bod didn't want to make Mayweather-De la Hoya because he was protecting his over hyped cash-cow?
There's precisely one reason Bob wasn't willing to match Floyd with Oscar, and it is the the same reason other fights don't happen 99.99% of the time and that is disagreements about money$$$$$. Floyd wanted $20 mil all in for the fight. Bob didn't think that type of money would be there for Floyd (seeing Oscar would get the lion's share) and said NO. If Floyd asked for $10 mil it would have been signed within a few days. Bob is still ****ting bricks about the fact that Floyd proved him wrong and actually made more than what he wanted from TR. That would have been an extra $5mil for Bob off the top of what he would have made on that fight.

Exactly, but Oscar wasn't an Arum fighter at that time. So according to Wess who was the over hyped cash cow that Arum was protecting in that instance? It wasn't Oscar since it wasn't his fighter. That leaves Floyd who was his fighter. So is Floyd the one who was the over hyped cash cow that Wess is referring in that instance? Or is that just a fan boy talking out of his ass?
For the record, Cotto fought on the undercard of a Mayweather-Sosa and Mayweather and him got into an exchange of words and Mayweather challenged Cotto to a match. Mayweather was 29-0 and Cotto was 14-0. Cotto's camp said of course Mayweather wants the bout Cotto only has 14 bouts and turned it down(Ring Magazine)
Later when Cotto was the wbo junior welterweight champ, Mayweather was told Cotto wants the bout now and Mayweather said he wasn't a big enough name for him so instead he fought DeMarcus Corley who must have been a big name because he lost his previous bout to Zab Judah.
So yes there was a time when Cotto did not want to fight Mayweather but there was also a time when Mayweather did not want Cotto.
Cotto wasn't ready for Floyd at 140, he didn't want Floyd then
at 147, Floyd flat out retired to avoid Cotto and Tony
Oscar wasn't caving on money for the rematch
Floyd was stuck with a fight against the winner of Tony vs Cotto
Oscar himself was looking for Cotto, expecting him to win it
Floyd went home and came back after both guys had lost to face a LW

Floyd retired officially retired in 2008 after he couldn't secure a 2nd fight with De La Hoya which I believe was in March 08....3-4 months after that Cotto lost to Margarito....6 months after that Margarito was obliterated by Mosley....
Mayweather un-retired and fought the #2 P4P JMM then the #3 P4P and #1 WW Mosley....
so yeah...Mayweather retired to duck Margarito & Cotto

yes he did Judy
he didn't announce it until, what, June of 08?
don't remember exactly
point is, he wasn't getting the money he wanted for an Oscar rematch
so his only options were Tony and Cotto
they were setting up to fight each other
Floyd coulda waited and fought the winner
but he didn't, he just ran away
