First of all, I'm always available to face everyone. My feeling is that if the fight didn't happen before, then it wasn't right for my case [at the time]. It is available now and will happen this year on Saturday, May 5, so I am going to be prepared.

Was the Mayweather fight one that you pushed for through the years at any point behind the scenes with Bob Arum?

Cotto: I never pushed for it at any time before. I would just see what is the best fight that I can get fight by fight. This one is the best one for me now. This is the best chapter in my career so far.

Here`s Arum admitting back in 2006 that Floyd asked for 10 million to fight Cotto and would have fought Margarito for 8 millioon dollars if Arum guaranteed him 10 mil for Cotto,10 mil for Hatton, and 20 mil for Oscar:

Where does it say he avoided Mayweather?

There's plenty of threads dating back to 2007 where Cotto states "I don't know why he doesn't want to fight me."

Go ahead, enlighten me... is it because I called you a Floyd nuthugger... I'm a pac nut rider?
Yes. That is they're automatic response.

They never assume that you just dont like either of them or dont care that much. The idea of someone not being a "flowmo" or "pacttarrd" is foreign to them.

I still don't see how that's justifying Cotto "Avoiding" Mayweather.

He even states after the Mosley fight he'd fight Floyd, De La Hoya, Hatton, etc. It was a question he was asked pretty frequently in 2007

How hard is it for people to understand that if you are with Top Rank you aint fighting Floyd. Cotto contract expires and two month later we got a fight. Must of you guys are so dumb and delusional.

Why Cotto said what he said in the interview? Cause he is not going to talk bad about Top Rank because he wants to still do business with them.

            Common sense is almost extinct.

Why Cotto would ask for something that he knows Top Rank is not giving him. Dont even mentioned when they were both at TR because just recently we saw how Arum kept stalling Gamboa vs Juanma when that was the fight that everyone wanted to see. Gamboa asked for the fight and Juanma openly asked for it. But you cant understand that because you are a nuthugger.

And in 2008 after one of Cotto`s fights,Larry Merchant asked Cotto to call Floyd out and Cotto did`nt say a word.
respectively, after the hatton fight, merchant baited fmj to call out cotto, and fmj, stated, that he had nothing else to prove, in the sport of boxing, and semi-retired...at that time, cotto had not taken the beatings, against margarito (with the alleged bricks in his gloves) or manny pacquiao...i have no doubt, given cotto's dance card excluding no one, that cotto, would have fought fmj, in 2005 or 2006, had the paperwork been correct...

So Cotto admits that he wasn't good enough in his prime to beat Floyd...but he's good enough now?!?

Kinda makes this fight less appealing doesn't it?

He was never good enough to beat Floyd. Just like Hatton wasn't good enough to beat either Pac or Floyd. Still Cotto is good enough to make a good fight out of it.
