Well, you're probably the only one that thinks that. The Diaz fight was Campbell's last at 135....he lost his belts on the scale against Funeka. So yes, Diaz was the number one contender and it was unequivocably the best fight to be made at LW.

The Diaz win is a very, very good win.

The Katsidis win was a solid win, nothing great. But they weren't tuneups and it does nothing to disprove that from 2007 until he fought Likar Ramos, he didn't fight one guy that could be considered a tuneup. And there were some big, grueling fights in that stretch.

So he was no1 by default? Funeka would've been a better fight. Joan Guzman. Linares?

Juan Diaz is crap and tailor made for JMM. He fought him cos they were both GBP and he was the biggest name. Be real about it.

He didn't fight guys that were tune-ups but he didnt always fight the best. And now hes fighting bums either side of Pacquio. I think the criticism is deserved and Im a massive fan of JMM

Diaz was always **** to me. How was he no1 challenger? He lost to Campbell. I dont think the fight was that relevant, it was just the lightweight champ taking on an OK contender, there were probably better fights to be made.

Katsidis got outboxed by Diaz ffs. I dont really care that he beat Mitchell and Escebedo (who?). Its just another OK fight.

I dont think there should be any excuse for the two bums.

You're just arguing for the sake of arguing now. Linares wasn't at LW, Funeka was coming off a loss to Campbell or had already signed on to fight Campbell(and missed weight), and Joan Guzman had just weighed in at like 157 for a LW fight against Campbell.

There was no better fight at LW, end of discussion. You were just never high on Diaz and that's fine I hear you there...but it was still the best fight to be made.

By the time JMM-Diaz was signed. Campbell had already signed to face his mandatory in Funeka. When JMM chose to fight Diaz, Campbell and Funeka were not available.

Diaz was the best possible available opponent. Was highly rank. Only 2 LW's at the time had a case to be ranked ahead of him(JMM and Nate). 1 of them was already busy.

At that specific time there was no better fighter at 135 to fight.

That was a good fight. I don't anyone should complain about that one.

PAC, may, Bradley Peterson khan rios/Gamboa morales Judah they all had fights lined up. Who was left for JMM? He basically got frozen out

Yeah I'm pretty certain Marquez will fight twice more this year after this fight. Rios would be fcking awesome in the summer. I'm down with this fight as long as he gets a big one in there somewhere, not everyone is available all the time in this business. Rios in the Summer and Khan/Peterson in the Winter? I'm down

That's how I feel. But, then again he could have possibly picked a better opponent like a Gesta or even a Kim. But, then again he probably doesn't want to go back down to 135. But, then there was a Provodnikov who is a better opponent and not sure much of a threat.

That's one of the best fights that could be made. Marquez-Rios. Would be awesome to see Marquez pull of a win against a defensively flawed, but big and relentless, tough chinned, #1 ranked and undefeated Brandon Rios at this point of his career.
