Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but if nobody watches the card, what exactly will it accomplish? If he wanted to groom them, they should be place in undercards of other popular fighters. Or put them against other known fighters. Pirog vs Lee or Quillin is equally as good as Pirog vs Geale except the other two are more well known. Or even Geale vs Lee or Quillin. Those matchups make way more sense than Pirog vs Geale.

Nobody is complaining about the fights because for the most part we are all hardcore fans who will enjoy this card. I think people are just curious as to why HBO would televise this when its a fact that all of the fighters mentioned are virtually unknown to casual fans in the states who probably make up a large portion of HBO's audience.Comment

I agree with these locations.Anywhere in the West is a bad idea. Pirog-Geale/Trout-Dzinziruk wouldn't sell any tickets in TX, NM, CO, AZ, NV, or CA. They need to do it where there's a really large Eastern European population. Somewhere on the East Coast, or even Chicago would be better in my opinion.
I hope they make this happen there's enough diehards to appreciate both of these fights, they're both solid matchups.
I can remember watching Showtime fights when I first got it a few years ago and thinking to myself who are these guys, who cares it was a good scrap. Just like the UFC some of these guys come out of nowhere and put on a good show.
Bottom line, I think it should happen.Comment

Honestly i question you being a boxing fan. All you want is "big name fights". When an opportunity presents itself when we actually have 2 top MWs fighting eachother for a unification, all you want is bigger names like Lee and Quillin
Lee and Quillin

Because people will watch them. And if they're good fights people will watch replays through word of mouth.Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but if nobody watches the card, what exactly will it accomplish? It's obviously gonna do poor live ratings but if 400,000 people watch it, that's probably 300,000 more people that would now know who they are than there was before the card.Comment

Who gives a **** that it's a unification? Unification are only interesting when's there no clear champion. Pirog and Geale are fighting for a meaningless paper unification. As far as I'm concerned, Geale, Pirog, Lee, and Quillin are all on equal standing. I said this before. I wouldn't favor any of those four guys by any significant margin if they fought each other. They would all make good fights. And since when do you give a fuck about Geale? Do you seriously think Geale is somehow leagues ahead of Lee and Quillin in skill and talent? If you think belts means better fights, I'll have to question you being a boxing fan.Last edited by DoktorSleepless; 03-27-2012, 04:12 PM.Comment

You have to be crazy if you think putting in 2 massive draws in contenders lee and quillin is better then pirog-galeWho gives a **** that it's a unification? Dan Rafael is one of the most reliable sources in boxing so I don't doubt much the validity of it being "in works"; and with Ken Hershman at the helm of HBO, it isn't unreasonable to think this doubleheader fight could be made.
I understand where you're coming from, but this is what should happen when good unknown fighters can't get a fight against known opponents; just match them against each other and hope for the best.
The other reasons are 1) This card would be cheaper than some one-fight HBO cards and 2) it'd be taking place when HBO doesn't have high expectations for ratings (for some reason they've tried to avoid the Olympics in the past).
They'll definitely be replaying the Jacobs KO in advance... I wouldn't watch the lead up to the fight if I were him.Comment
