He looked bad because Macklin completely changed his style and fought a defense first fight. His entire game plan was to catch and counter martinez coming in.

Obviously Martinez didnt want to fight macklin's fight so he took his time figuring him out and breaking him down

Macklin and Barker are both two of the best guys at 160, Martinez isn't fighting scrubs like Chavez jr is, he's fighting real, legit challengers. All Martinez does it turn it up to the next gear and these guys fall to pieces.
