Macklin did well, had a good game plan, and might have even won the fight if he didnt knock Martinez down lol. He seemed to wake him up a bit when he did that and Sergio switched it up a few gears and pretty much dominated from that point on. Macklin only had 1 answer to Sergio's pressure, and that was to trade with him. Bad idea. And he said himself in the interview after, he stopped moving his head, another bad idea.

I didn't think fight was as close as the bad NYc judges had it and was it sold out???where I sat up top right there appeared to be @ least 12/1500 hunfred empty seats....SM needs to box in areas that appreciate him, not in a place that holds a touch over 6k...

I just wished he would challenge someone north of 154lbs (Ward, Bute, Froch for example). Martinez should actually step his game up if he ever wants to take the P4P #1 or #2 slots from their current owners. IMO he beats every 154 fighter out there and has a good chance to even swim in the 160lbs pool, just say though.
Huh? Martinez is the lineal middleweight champion and has 4 defenses at 160. He is a 154 pounder campaigning at 160. Ward, bute and froch are all supermws (168) and WAY bigger than martinez. Macklin was the no. 3 middleweight in the world (actually second because he beat sturm). Last i checked middleweight is 160, not 154.

This fight was def better than I expected. Props to Martinez for making the necessary adjustments, but next time don't under estimate your opponent.

macklin fought well but i dont see how he made martinez look bad as some suggest. it's the same with barker, neither of those dudes actually did much, they were just all defense. so the fight was closer because it was just a bunch of turtling. the 7th round knockdown was bs tho. i dont see how it's considered a knockdown if u put ur leg behind the guy then push him over it with the momentum of a punch. that's a trip all day. maybe it was good that it happened tho cuz martinez got pissed and took him out after that.

macklin had a good game plan to keep the fight close early on but if u take a look at the before and after pictures of both fighters, u'll see that macklin didnt really do much to sergio so i dont find it as impressive as others do. martinez looked like he could do a photoshoot right after the fight so while macklin did keep the fight close through 7 rounds, he didnt really do anything impressive.

Martinez was very confused by it, he even said he expected Macklin to fight aggressively, he didn't prepare for anything else but that. I'm disappointed that it took Martinez a long time to adjust to it, I would have expected him to adapt sooner, I thought Macklin's game plan was obvious.
It's because he's not used to fighters trying to counter HIM. I could tell when the camera went to Macklin in the dressing room, when he was shadow boxing and warming up, the way he had his defense placed and the way he was throwing shots, I knew he was going to come out trying to draw counters from Martinez to counter, which is when Martinez is most vulnerable, you could tell early on, Martinez almost looked like he had no answers for it, that is a little worrying. I have to say, I think Macklin slowing down alot and not displaying the lateral movement he was early in the fight, had alot to do with Martinez "adapting".

It did and Martinez's straight left to the body was a contributer to Macklin tiring, saw him get hurt by the body shots. It was worrying though.
