ok then majority of cubans dont care for gamboa.Dont try to tell
me otherwise. If they cared about him,They would support him.
And everyone knows for a fact,That cubans dont show support.
You're comparing Cuban support of Gamboa with Mexican and Puerto Rican support for their fighters. It's flawed thinking. Nearly all of our fighters were trapped in Cuba, fighting as amateurs, for decades. Puerto Ricans and Mexicans have been free to fight, develop interest and grow large fan-bases over those very same years. Rome wasn't built in a day.
If you want to claim that boxing fans in general don't care about Yuri, that's plain false. There are a lot of people on these message boards alone that clearly love the guy (at least before this fiasco). In the polls I've seen here, Gamboa was picked to beat the larger Rios. (I voted for Brandon.) HBO thinks enough of Gamboa that they canceled their broadcast when Yuri pulled out. (Apparently, they thought Rios and his vaunted Mexican fan-base weren't enough.)
The last I checked, Gamboa was being offered more money than Brandon: $1.1M. That's a huge sum for a guy in his weight class, and a gargantuan payday for a guy with no interest and no fan-base. Some very smart, very experienced, very knowledgeable and very talented people think Yuriorkis is star material. Then there's you....

You sure do talk like you know it all, I'm gonna assume by your avatar and sig that you DO NOT live in a Cuban community. But hey, you know what they say about assuming.

Not only our fighters are trapped over there but fans as well. Well put.

That's one of the best posts I've seen on this site since the day I joined. Very well put.

Correct. There are only approximately 1.5 million Cubans living in the United States. The Cubans on the island are trapped. There are approximately four million Puerto Ricans living in mainland United States. Another four million on the island travel freely. That makes eight million. There are well over thirty million Mexicans living in the U.S.!
Gee, I wonder why Mexican and Puerto Rican fighters get more support....

that's fine and can agree to a point but oncechance does make a correct point in that for the most part the US based Cuban audience does not follow their fighters like others. Don't know why the other guy got all bent he's not disrespecting Cubans at all

but this never translates into actual popularity messageboard activity does not translate into ticket sales, popularity overall, and ratings
and you're wrong about why HBO pulled out of the Rios bout. HBO wanted the match up NOT the fighters theirselves.
Even at that point the interest still was there if TR was willing to match Rios up with Alvarado or Provodnikov.

again not sure why you and the other guy are so offended over what onechance said but stop being so touchy over something that is essentially true
or do you have actual numbers to support Gamboa's popularity?
and the whole "well he's making ____ someone must think he's something" hold no water at all
Maybe you should go boxing or get involved in boxing so you can give fans what they wanna see. But we all know that's not gonna happen cause its always easier to sit on you're fat ass and whine about it or criticize others. Ignorant people.
So boxing fans can't criticize the fighters we pay to see because we aren't professional boxers ourselves. Because no one has made that argument before, in order to cover up the fact the athlete being criticized deserves it.
Cash cow? Wow. How are you going to be a cash cow when you duck the most challenging fight that you would ever have for the first time in your career? Even if you lose that fight, it doesn't mean it would be the end of your boxing career. I don't even think this fight is a walk in the park for Rios. Money may be important, but I can't understand why you would trade something that could become your defining moment.
Last Saturdays destruction of Juanma Lopez at the hands of Orlando Salido put an end to Top Ranks second efforts of making the mega fight Gamboa vs Lopez.
Sorry Bob, you let that fight marinate a little too long.
Because of this, Gamboa lost the opportunity of his biggest pay day at the 126lb featherweight division.
How would you react if the promotional company responsible for getting you the big bucks just cost you 7 figures? .... Move up two divisions, put your undefeated record on the line, and accept 1.1 million that needs to be split among a hand full of other people. (Ahmet Oner, Luis de Cuba, Tony Gonzalez Emmanuel Steward (the would be trainer for Gamboa vs Rios ). ??
I dont think so.
It was time for Gamboa to take matters into his own hands and eliminate some of the middle men with whom he splits a majority of his earnings.
If Gamboa is going to part ways with Top Rank, now is the perfect time, while he has the support of Floyd Mayweather and Golden Boy, and good lawyers.
His stock is rising and the perfect time.
Even HBO has decided that April 14th will not be televised without Gamboa.
Yuriorkis Gamboa is the next money making machine in boxing and Floyd Mayweather knows it. His talent is undeniable and his style will keep fans on the edge of their seats.
Excellent move by Gamboa. The best is yet to come.
Excellent post the haters are hating especially the Rios fans, I hope they do get it on after Gamboa's promotion is sorted! Rios fans can be so annoying he is just a slugger after all. Rios is a punk, he will get beat if he goes for a welterweight title
