So there's this article in badlefthook lambasting Gus Johnson's awful performance during the Salido-Lopez II fight, with most posters just agreeing with it.
Then someone narrates this story:
"Still, the enthusiasm might be misplaced or feel artificial to viewers, but i remember a press photo of salido-lopez I from right after the ref stopped the fight, and salido’s running to celebrate, and in the background you can see all the press people still seated, including the showtime crew, except gus is standing, screaming, with his hands on his head as if he just won the lottery or something—just hysterical, near-tears glee. i mean, there weren’t any showtime cameras on him or anything; he wasn’t mugging for viewers. dude was seriously that excited."

the mental image alone is already hilarious. though i do now feel guilty for mocking his commentary during the fight. he's probably just a casual, easily excitable boxing fan who's handed a mic for showtime's boxing shows since he calls other sports pretty decently.
