Pretty much what I was thinking

That isn't an insult to Gamboa either, Rios is underrated as a pressure fighter, his technical skills, jab, defense considering his style isn't appreciated much on here. He's also been killing himself to make weight so I'm excited to see how strong he'll be at 140.
Lol I think the bold applies to me. I agree Rios has a descent jab. I mean he did drop Anthony Peterson with the jab.

But his defense stinks. He takes way to many head shots just to land 1. He's like Margarito/Angulo. His style is crowd friendly, but if we're talking about skills, besides his jab, there's nothing there. He's winning off brute force.

I wouldn't compare him to either Margarito or Angulo, he clearly emphasizes on his defense way more than those guys. You also have to look at Acosta's and Antillon's offense, unlike fighters like Maidana, Margarito those two throw short punches and put their punches together very well.

Just don't understand how Maidana who's far off from being textbook got so much praise, Rios on the other hand knows how to throw, has good punch selection, you don't see many fighters today who apply pressure as successfully as Rios.

Gamboa is skilled, fast and powerful, but I've seen so many *****s in him. When people don't react to his power, he doesn't know what to do, and I've seen gamboa slightly pressured, and he doesn't react well to it all.

Rios will walk through every single punch of his and keep bringing that pressure.

Plus Rios is just too big for him.. I would bet all my points on Rios over Gamboa any day. I've always wondered wth Gamboa was thinking in taking such a dangerous fight, so i'm a little su****ious that he doesn't want the fight.
I always thought Sergio Martinez would beat Gamboa. He's got great timing, He could catch Gamboa and put him down.

Plus Sergio Martinez is just too big for him.

It isn't far fetched to think he made that pick as Gamboa went as far as to call out Pacquiao, one could have contemplated any fight for Gamboa north of FW after that.

Based on memory, Rios takes a lot of head shots. He gets into rockem sockem wars. This is why I made the Margarito/Angulo comparison. When you say Rios has better defense than Marg/Angulo, are you referring to Rios's head movement, the way he keeps his hands up, and footwork against the aggressive opponent?

I really don't notice a difference between the 3 (Angulo, Rios, Older Margarito).

Regarding the comparison to Rios's punches to Maidana's. Yes, there's a difference in that aspect. Rios's punches are straighter and more precise. Maidana's punches are looping and wider. Yes, I agree with that.

But when it comes to defense and pressure, not so much.
