You mean you'd want him to get jail time just for not paying the right taxes, in spite of already being a model tax payer and being one of the biggest tax payer in the region at that?

Alright, calm down. Manny is being investigated by the prosecutors for alleged violation of the Philippine tax code which provides as follows:
'Sec. [266]. Failure to obey summons. — Any person, who being duly summoned to appear to testify, or to appear and produce books of accounts, records, memoranda, or other papers, or to furnish information as required under the pertinent provisions of this Code, neglects, to appear or to produce such books of accounts, records, memoranda, or other papers, or to furnish such information, shall, upon conviction, be fined not less than Five thousand pesos but not more than Ten thousand pesos and suffer imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than two years.'"
His alleged non-submission of documents lead the tax agency to recommend the filing of the above offense. It has nothing to do with whether or not he had declared and paid the correct taxes. In other words, the investigation right now is not for tax evasion BUT for failure to obey summons which by itself is punishable under Philippine law.Comment

Looks like Pacquiao is in trouble for low-balling his earnings like every other wealthy person does in the Philippines. The hypocrisy is that rich people there barely pay any taxes. They all cheat. The chances of a rich person going to jail for murder in the Philippines is next to ZERO. So take a guess on the chances of Pacquiao going to jail or even being charged for tax evasion....
The people that have a hand in this are most likely his political rivals looking to smear Pacquiao's political career. He's given millions to charity, as well. Very unlikely this smear campaign will result in anything.Comment

I don't think it's sad, because the huge amounts of money that some boxers make is purely obscene. No sporting figure deserves that sort of payment, gouged out of working people's hard earned wages. Even the celebrities and gamblers who attend are using what was originally working peoples' money.

Al Haymon has been working for him for years, and he still got into IRS trouble a nundred times bigger than Pacquiao's, which has not even been proven to be "trouble". It's merely what we used to call a "fishing expedition". The government want to get something on all friends of the last president.Comment

We have yet to determine if he had indeed low-balled his earnings. His earnings abroad have been subjected already to the US taxes, henceforth, he is entitled to tax credits in the Philippines. What is clear right now is that he failed to obey summons that is why he is being sued for that. In the event he decides to submit the requested documents, the complaint will be dismissed outright for being moot and academic. Tax evasion right now is not an issue.Comment
