Gamboa is not a coward, he's just a realist. He knew he was giving up to much in weight. It would be like Rios moving up to 154 or 160. It's too much of a weight disparity.

I do think some people are giving Rios too much credit here. He's a good brawler, sure, but there's nothing Gamboa has to worry about.

He's got an issue with Top Rank at the moment, not the fight.

Who said that, I never heard of it... no agreement has been reached... hahaha Anyways, that was just too good to be true, it looked like Gamboa would take a big risk/challenge, but instead he chooses to bail out of the fight with some ridiculous excuse... That could have been a fight of the year, great stylistic matchup, but no just bail and make yourself look like a coward... very disappointing...
Are you implying that the war machine on this fight got rolling without Gamboa's knowledge?

Here are some of the things I'm pretty sure about regarding this issue:

        1. It was Yuri's idea to fight Brandon.

        2. If it wasn't, then Gamboa went along with it.

I wouldn't doubt for a second that someone might've tried to screw Yuri over in some aspect of the contract...but the above still stands.

If Rios decided to call out Cotto, got the fight made, then ran & hid somewhere he'd get the same treatment.

David Haye actually made it to the ring & took his lumps. Gamboa didn't show up to the press conference in his own back yard.

Hard to say, but it was revealed that he would get paid more than Rios and a bonus in case he wins. That does not sound like he got screwed over... It is just hard too believe his explanation... If he had problems with the contract he should have made that clear weeks ago...

Obviously there's a lot as yet unanswered. But, from what I understand so far, Gamboa's main issue isn't with the money, it's with the contract extension. Now, one would think that Yuri should've known about that little wrinkle a long time ago. However, as "Ree****yaluss" pointed out in another thread, sometimes contracts are agreed to in principle; then, when the finished product is produced, the wording is different than what was agreed to verbally.

Here's an excerpt from an article posted by Dan Rafael at ESPN.com:

DuBoef said Gamboa had agreed to the Rios fight and that he has an ample paperwork trail to back it up, even though the official bout agreement isn't signed yet. (It's standard practice in boxing for a formal bout agreement to go unsigned until well into a promotion.)

Given the shadiness of boxing as a whole, it's not inconceivable that someone tried to pull a fast one on Gamboa. At the moment, the facts are simply too sketchy to make assertions as to who's right or wrong here.
