Here's an excerpt from Dan Rafael's blog at ESPN.com. I posted the article in its entirety in a separate thread, entitled "Where in the World is Yuriorkis Gamboa." (The highlighting is mine.)

DuBoef said Gamboa had agreed to the Rios fight and that he has an ample paperwork trail to back it up, even though the official bout agreement isn't signed yet. (It's standard practice in boxing for a formal bout agreement to go unsigned until well into a promotion.)

Not sure if that's enough incentive. Hopefully someone has told the potiental penalty of pulling out of this fight.

        Being benched.

he cant be benched so thats kinda false. even if he pulls out of this fight, if theres no contract and he never agreed to the terms of this fight, top rank still has to get him another fight. thats their job. only way he can be benched is if he chooses so himself. top rank cant bench him.

                  Top Rank are sneaky bastards

They've been doing this too long to not have some tricks. Offer average terms and if they accept, great. If not? Throw some more of the money they will make us into the pot.....rinse and repeat.

That goes for this fight and the actual contracts they have with fighters. Why pay full amount if you can get away with low-ball offers?

This entire situation can get caught up in litigation. Gamboa's team agreed in principle to fight Rios.

Top Rank will make Gamboa pay dearly for pulling out of this fight.

Hope Gamboa knows what he is doing. Industry sources believe litigation from TR could keep him sidelined for a year, if not longer.

                      This is exactly it! ^^^

Also, why did the 2nd press conference go forward without Top Rank reaching out to Gamboa's team and lawyer? It all seems as though they are trying to paint Gamboa in a bad light.

Is that the way you treat your fighters? Bully them into signing.
