Todd duBoef: "not only does Gamboa have a contract, it was recently extended."

I would have to imagine GBP are involved with Mayweather in this and either there's holes in his Top Rank contract or it could be bought out at a decent price. Yuri's contract situation has been regarded as not very good for quite some time now which would suggest it could maybe be bought out relatively cheap.
I was looking forward to this fight, but if he's being told that this move will help his career, I'm not in a position to be a critic.Comment

I'm not POSITIVE, so don't quote me exactly, but I think HBO was putting up around 2.5 million for the card. Alvarado is prolly gonna get 100k, and his opponent prolly 75k. Rios and Gamboa were gonna get around a 1.1 million guarantee. . . Which is a FUGG load of money for lightweights in this day and age, and at their perspective stages in their careers. . .Comment

But like we were discussing earlier, Gamboa HAS to have a good manager and lawyer who he should trust over Floyd Mayweather. . . Who knows, maybe Arum is running some kind of extra grimy scheme (even for a promotor), that Gamboa has jsut no been made aware of.Comment

I doubt Arum ****s on him by sitting him, unless Gamboa is really set on leaving. Arum could have shelved Donaire as well, but a deal was worked out and he continued to build Donaire up getting him the Vazquez fight and soon to be another decent scrap.
IMO I see a scenario in which Yuri doesn't face Rios, works out his issues with Top Rank and signs to fight some contender in the fall.
I hope this works out because I felt Top Rank was ready to get Yuri some big fights if he got past Rios (possible 2 fights away from a Pacquiao showdown).
He's turning that down to fight... who? Adrien Broner, in a year, maybe?Comment

Honestly, say what you will about Top Rank, they deserve plenty of it, but Gamboa was getting a fight with probably the best lightweight in the world, and if he won he would be in position for money fights out the ass.

Good point Bojangles. . . Gamboa is going to get around a million dollars in a high profile fight against the best LW in the world. . You know how many LW's get million dollar paydays? And the attention and limelight of HBO?
Gamboa wins this fight, he is realistically in a position to get a Pacquiao fight. .
He will be out AT LEAST a year, amybe more. . Just to fight Broner? ******. . .
I just don't see what Golden Boy (Floyd doesn't even have a promotional license - we all know he'll be working with GBP by signing with Floyd) can do for him that TR can't? TR has so many more good fights.Comment
