Gamboa is already 30 or something and he is looking to get his career caught up in legal troubles and keep him out of the ring for almost a year, instead of taking what wouldve been the biggest fight of his career.

What the hell is going on

how can anyone, and there are quite a few, say "yeah screw Bob I hope this is true" rather than see this fight?

not to point you out or anything but short of Cotto and Mayweather who is successfully leading their own career sans promoter? In fact, I would eliminate Cotto as he has yet to do it and the vast majority of work was done with TR to get where he is

the aspect of taking one's career over is far concept considering the vast majority of fighters get their careers to mean something with promoters

Not to mention you can't "take control" over your career if you're currently under contract. If that's what Gamboa did he really doesn't understand how things work in the US, specifically contracts.

oh im in agreement with all of u. wit that said that seems to be exactly what he thinks hes doing. i dunno how it will work out for him and i am a fan with that said, he shouldnt have made all the prep work for this fight and then at the last minute choose to back out, thats unprofessional and it breaches the contract.

but lets wait to hear from him i guess, i dont know the specifics of the deal, but theres probably something in there he didnt like and it seems top rank knew he wouldnt show.

Why would he want to leave TR after just signing an extension? What can Floyd do for him with Golden Boy? Look what TR have done for him thus far? Look at the talent pool they have from 135-147. . We could realistically get a Gamboa/Pacquiao fight since they are both about the same natural size. . .

Why do people think Arum screws his fighters? Doesn't he just get the standard 27% promotional fee that all promotors get for putting up the capital, and the risk to make the fights? Doing all the legwork involved in promotions? Don't these fighters have lawyers and managers who review contracts for them - so they would know what they were getting into if they were really about to get "screwed"?

If Gamboa wanted to "take control" of his career, he should finish out his contract with TR, pushing for the biggest and best fights. . Save money, and when contract is up, promote himself? Or at least work hand in hand with other promotors of the fighter you are trying to fight? Put up your end of the money, and go from there.

Not 100% sure, but I heard that Oner and Top Rank had Gamboa sign an extension as a condition to fight Rios. Gamboa didn't sign the final agreement of Rios contract yet but if he did sign an extension, then Gamboa has no choice but to fight Rios and stay with Top Rank. Gamboa is in his 30's and a mess up like this could mean career suicide.
