how is that a freaking roadblock?

its only a deterrent because Floyd didn't follow the catchweight with JMM for whatever reason

If anything, it's a roadblock for cheating an opponent by coming over the agreed weight.

He didn't because it wasn't. Mayweather has never had a problem making 147, so why would Pac need a weight penalty clause in the contract? It was the Marquez fight when he couldn't make 144. They thought Floyd would have trouble with the weight. Who the hell wants to lose 10MIL for 1lb over? I'd rather give blood randomly then pay 10Mil for 1lb.

Sometimes in life, the things you are looking for are clearly in your vision. You just have to seek them out. While at the Apollo Theater for the Mayweather-Cotto NYC press tour stop, the answer to who was to blame for the mega fight not happening became evident to me. It is Mayweather. During his time at the podium, Mayweather claimed “Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter but he should take the test.” Yes, Mayweather pulled the good old, “take the test” trick out of his hat, a trick that never seems to fail the media or the fans. It seems as if Floyd has an arduous time keeping up with what excuse he is currently using for the fight with Manny not happening. The week prior to Mayweather saying this, Pacquiao told multiple boxing writers, including myself that OSTD wasn’t an issue and that the fight with Mayweather fell apart due to Floyd denying him a 50/50 split in revenue. According to both men, the fight isn’t happening on May 5th because they couldn’t come to an agreement on money, not drug testing. Yet, Floyd still disingenuously claims Manny should “take the test”. Mayweather then went on to claim that Pacquiao would never get a 50/50 split. “Nobody will” he claimed. What a tangled web we weave, when at first we plan to deceive.

If you are a boxing purist, it would be nearly impossible to not be a fan of Floyd Mayweather. In the ring he is brilliant. For two years now, I have defended him and took his side, telling others that he would easily beat Pacquiao, and I still believe he would. But, obviously we will never know due to the internal insecurities that Floyd has. All of the calling out via Twitter didn’t happen in 2009 after Pacquiao destroyed Miguel Cotto. It happened after Manny nearly lost a close decision to Juan Manuel Marquez last November. Floyd Mayweather is a coward. The sad thing is that he has no reason to be afraid, as he has all the tools to clearly beat Manny Pacquiao. Instead, he will tell Pacquiao to “take the test”, while Manny has already agreed to do so. You can blame Bob Arum, You can blame Manny Pacquiao, and you can blame whomever you want to blame.

The real blame should rest directly on the shoulders of Floyd Mayweather. It is evident in his actions that he doesn’t care about his legacy or his fans. He refuses to fight fighters’ in their prime, when the demand is in. Floyd is a business man first, Manny is a fighter first. Perhaps, that is the reason why Pacquiao was named “Fighter of the decade” and Mayweather wasn’t. Fight fans should take a look at Mayweather’s inconsistencies, which far outweigh those of Bob Arum, and blame him for the mega fight not happening. After all, it is not like he cares what the fans think of him anyway.
At this point in time, in spite of Floyd's skills, his chances of winning a fight against Pac has been greatly diminished for one simple but very compelling reason. Once fear sets in a boxer's psyche, he has lost at least half of the fight.
To put it in another way, once your balls are gone, you're done.

If its not a problem, why are you guys making such a big deal from this?

              • calling the weight penalty a roadblock is just ******. if you think so, then mayweather is giving himself some leeway as he might plan to come in over the limit?

he just have to follow the commission rule of the weight class limit, AS USUAL and DO NOTHING EXTRA. entirely different from OST, where you have to do something EXTRA, aside from the commission rules.

                  • @ 58 pages....dudes are locked into a certain way of thinking so going back and forth on this issue won't change a thing....the fight is not happening....at the end of the day dudes shouldn't be throwing shots at each other if the dudes in question are not willing to....leave it alone....Floyd is fighting Cotto and Manny is fighting Bradley.....move on!!!

                    • can anyone explain to me IN DETAIL his "structured deal"? how does he manage to keep 100% of the PPV revenue? I know he is his own promoter and all that but he said he keeps ALL the PPV revenue, how is that possible? I been doing my research looking for an answer to this but can't seem to find any legit source of information regarding his deal IN DETAIL.

anyone arguing that Pacquiao deserves more is just a fan of Pacquiao though, there is no way you can look at the pair and not feel like one is risking more than the other. Floyd has a UNDEFEATED record, is a world champion, has the whole entire Boxing world and media at his grasp from his own doing and IS the highest paid athlete period, point blank..

name me someone else who can go out and make 50 million dollars in an event that wont require a full hour of his time? show me just 1 single game where any other athlete EVER cleared 40 million dollars the way Floyd managed to position himself to do in just 1 fight (the way Manny still hasn't), you can't because there aren't any LeBron James doesn't even make half of that in 1 year, Floyd gets 7 million MORE dollars than what LeBron James and Dwayne Wade make in a year combined and gets it in a just a single fight.
