WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs) sat down with a group of reporters in Puerto Rico and explained his selection of Miguel Cotto as the opponent for May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather was attempting to secure both Manny Pacquiao and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, but Mayweather's financial terms were not accepted by either fighter.

This is the most mature and civil Mayweather I've seen yet. You could tell that he respects Cotto a lot cause you haven't heard a negative word come out his mouth yet. He knows better to mess with the Puerto Rock lol.

I mess upset come May 5th. War Cotto!!!!

Cotto is solid but he isnt one of the best. You should go for Sergio at 154 or Pac.

You said no matter what you do its not enough, and this is another reason why. YOu fight good guys who aint the best. You could do more, but dont go the extra yard.

Beating Cotto wont be enough, you will be discredited for beating Pacs leftovers. I hate describing Cotto as a leftover cos he seems such a humble and nice guy, i just hope Cotto dont read me describing him as one.

Pacquiao chose to fight Timothy Bradley for $7.5m instead of fighting Mayweather for more than $40m, very wise move indeed

Sergio Martinez is too goddamn big! If Floyd or Pac are dumb enough to make that fight, they'd be at a 25 lbs disadvantage guaranteed. Because there is no way Sergio Martinez is coming into that ring on fight night anything less than 170 lbs. And that's being a little generous because Martinez will be full aware of the size difference and will rehydrate to the maximum he can to have the greatest advantage.

Floyd, even when fighting at 154, actually comes in weighing a few pounds below 154 on fight night. And Pacquiao, even with the catchweights, struggles to make 150. There is no way either of these two are fighting Martinez. People need to stop dreaming. Martinez is too damn big for both of them.

How can Sergio be the best at 154 when he the f-ckin MW champion.

There is no number 1 fighter at 154.

                  hes smart!!

floyd only fights fighters with some type of following, so the fight is placed on a large scale and sells out. it has to mean something not just the average No.1 & No.2 fighters around, for instance,,,
                  Cotto (the whole PuertoRico)
                  Ortiz (had the mexican/American public)
Mosley (had the whole boxing media World behind him)
                  Marquez (the whole mexico)
                  Hatton (the whole england)
DelaHoya (the whole mainstream boxing world & Mexican american world)
Gatti (the whole damm Atlantic City & hardcore boxing fans)
Baldomir (had all the damm belts LOL)
judah (had the whole Hip Hop world behind him at the time).
