I heard this from a few different people, but apparently Thomas Dulorme and Maidana were sparring in prep for the Alexander fight and Maidana was dropped twice and waived Dulorme off? I know someone else here mentioned it a couple days ago.
we have a couple puerto rican posters who claim they heard whispers but i couldn't find an actual credible source that backs it up.
lol at some ppl in this thread. he dont need 34 knockdowns to win a decision, he obviously wont get it of its close and probably not unless he wins by a wide margin. but its not like he cant win a decision. ppl act like kotelnik and matthysse both pitched a shut out or some shiet, but they were close fights, especially matthysse.
he cant leave no doubt at the end of the rounds if he wants to win em, but if he goes in there and really whupps him i dont think they gon take it from him.
Is Smoger still going to be the ref? You know what type of beating Maidana will have to put on Devon to actually score a TKO with Smoger as the ref? He's gonna have to KO him cold to win by stoppage.
He's a good ref who "let's em fight"...but in this type of matchup it might actually work against Marcos. Giving Smoger no choice but to stop it is the only way.
Alexander isn't a runner and he's shown some wilingness to stand in there and fight and redeem his toughness...if he's hurt he will fight back and keep himself alive even if he's out on his feet momentarily like he looked to be against Matthyse - I anticipate a good fight but one where Alexander survives being hurt here, avoids a KO late...but ultimately wins by decision. I hate being this cynical about fights...hoping there is no controversy in this one.
Even if he scores the knockout, there might be some Martinez/Cintron "he headbutt me" type nonsense. If he has Alexander wobbly, the ref will probably dive in the way to keep Maidana from finishing him. Maidana has no chance to win a decision, and he will have to land a memorable shot that knocks Alexander cold in order to even score the KO.

Come on, I know you aren't actually acting like Alexander had a case for winning against either Kotelnik or Matthysse. If those guys don't win decisions, Maidana has no chance.
People who rationalize those type of decisions the way you are are why Alexander can fight at home and screw other fighters over.

i dont think the matthyse fight was a robbery. i had matthyse winning but just barely, it was evenly contested the entire 12 rounds and had lots of swing rounds. again, i did think matthyse got the better of him but just slightly. he didnt do enough to put the decision in the bag though, especially considering he was fighting a former champion in his hometown.
kotelnik won, that was some ol' bull**** the way they robbed him. but again, it was a competetive fight, ppl act like kotelnik pitched a shutout. he won and they took it from him, but he didnt win no 9-10 rounds so whos to say if maidana does he wont get the decision? maybe they will take whatever amount of rounds they need to take it from him, but you cant make that assumption and i find it highly unlikely. ppl excaggerate how hard it is to win a decision in st louis, he gon have to really take it but if he does he will get it imo.

Matthysse was close, I don't deny that, but it was still a fight he had no case for winning. Scoring 5 rounds for each is reasonable, but that's the most you can score for Alexander if you're being generous, and that still leaves him down a point. Matthysse won, there's no argument otherwise. Kotelnik won at least 7, that's all you need.
You shouldn't need to do extra work to win a fight in any case, I don't care who you are fighting or where it is. If a guy wins, he wins, he shouldn't have to win 10 rounds to get a draw or 1 point win. If Kotelnik and Matthysse didn't get it, in fights where they won, no argument about it, Maidana is screwed if he doesn't get a KO.
I can't wait 4 this fight but idk y fighters will even take fights at Devon home town after seen what happen to 2 fights out ther I no its all money but y wood u go out there knowing u need to knocked this guy out to win but I can't wait to c this fight
Maidana need a KO to win hand down there not going to give him rounds at all
Maidana already lost the fight. Him agreeing to a 10 round fight = win for Alexander. Regardless it well still be fun seeing Alexanders face in desperate mode once Maidana lands a solid shot
