It got almost a 1.9 rating on HBO in the US which is an excellent number for that channel. That same fight put on a major network could draw over 15 million people with zero promo behind. According to a study done 86% of HBO boxing fans are white. Without trying to be rasicst here that boxing figure is about the same as HBO own demographic so put a Mexican fighter like Chavez on a network with a wider reach like FOX or NBC and boxing could grab 30 million viewers no problem. Boxing isn't small ... HBO and showtime just make it look small. And they need boxing to look small so other networks don't try take it from them. No boxing = no original programming.

Are you saying that HBO is essentially sabotaging/hampering its boxing programs, so that no one else will broadcast boxing? This is like saying Fox wants "American Idol" not be too successful, so that another network will not copy it. Incredible. Please provide evidence.
And HBO does have plenty of original programming, other than boxing. In fact, it's known primarily for its other shows. "The Sopranos" is a very good example. (Please don't say that HBO didn't want "The Sopranos" to succeed.)Last edited by liuj88; 02-10-2012, 12:43 AM.Comment
