  • Whats killing boxing

Weekends like this past one are whats killing boxing. The two things that sports fans can't stand more than anything are terrible officiating and the thought that cheating could be going on.

The score card turned in on the nonito Donaire fight is an example of terrible officiating. How could someone in their right mind give Vasquez 7 rounds? How could a judge that incompetent be used in a title fight? Will there even be any discipline, review or questioning of how he produced such a card?

Also the issue going on with the Chavez-Rubio fight. Now I have nothing against Chavez as I don't think this is his fault. But how is it that something that is contractually supposed to happen just not done? how do you blame another commission for not enforcing the rules you created? For anyone who has done work under contract you know you are liable to be sued if you do not meet your contractual obligations. Is anything like that going to happen in this instance? doubt it.

These two things are just tips of the ice berg the crazy number of divisions the multiple sanctioning bodies with multiple titles in the same weight class the list goes on and on. Only us hard core fans are willing to look beyond this cluster**** that is the state of boxing to try and enjoy the fights that remain.

Does anyone else see these things? what are some possible solutions? boycott? full scale congregational hearing? I just can't see how boxing will ever climb back into mainstream with this many problems.

There's nothing we can do without the cooperation of millions of boxing fans to make it work. The problem is that it's the people in power causing the downfall of boxing, but despite the decline in quality fights, judges, officiating, etc., they're still making a killing off it by milking the cows that remain. Boxing will either die or be forced into a state where it has to reevaluate itself, doubt that happens in our lifetime though.

The main problem is there are way too many sanctioning bodies. It has to be one title for each division. This way everyone will be fighting for the title of their division instead of being called a champ when they haven't faced top competition. This will increase the competitive drive in fighters.

Another problem is promoter beef. Its all about inhouse money, nobody wants to share, so the fans suffer. Now Bob arum is a scum bag, but if he was running boxing we would have some amazing fights because no matter who wins hes at a gain.

Top Rank has soft matchmaking, and has us wait forever for fights like Gamboa and Lopez.

Golden Boy is a little better even though their soft with Alvarez. Golden Boy at least works with other promoters. The bantamweight tournament was awesome.

there should be 1 world champion in each division not 4. get rid of super & interim champions. keep a regional titles for each part of the world. NABF(north america), ASIAN PACIFIC(asia, australia, NZLD), EU belt for europe, Latino title(south america & central america, mexico). the title holder in each region gets a top 5 world ranking. you must defend the regional titles in that region(if you hold NABF title it must be defended vs north american contender in north america)against a top contender from that region...

wasnt the judge that gave vasquez 7 rounds also puerto rican? that isnt too much of a stretch for a puerto rican judge to give the puerto rican fighter more rounds, knowing the other judges clearly woulda given it to donaire, since he won the fight.

it was just for support Im sure, and it should totally be illegal and that judge should be reprimanded for scoring the bout based on ethnicity rather than boxing.

(disclaimer: this is NO way a racist post!)

                  Thats not what fickle means

                  1.
likely to change, especially due to caprice, irresolution, or instability; casually changeable: fickle weather.
                  2.
not constant or loyal in affections: a fickle lover.

It frustrates me that matches that people want to see can be held up because the two promoters (people aren't even going to step in the ring) could have issues where they are unwilling to work together.

There seems to be too many people involved that really don't care about the health of the overall sport only that they make the most money possible. In what other sport does money prevent two combatants from fighting?

how would you feel if the giants and patriots the two best teams in the NFL did not play each other because they could not agree on the money split, where to play the game, or what kind of field to play on. People would go crazy. This lets you know boxing has fallen off because these issues come up on a match by match basis and only avid boxing fans seem to care.
