yeah it should be pretty obvious that this is more of a $$$ fight for floyd...beating a 21 year old unproven fighter does nothing for his legacy. BUT if canelo somehow pulls off the upseat and beats floyd then that would do wonders for canelo's career, but I can't see it happening.

it really pisses me off because this fight has the POTENTIAL to have an exciting outcome. hear me out:

regardless of the outcome of floyd/canelo, the TIMING of where the fight is happening will determine the public reaction to it

if Canelo beats Cotto/Kirkland/Molina, and looks good doing it, and then fights Floyd and Floyd dominates: Floyd looks great

Subtract a Cotto/Kirkland/Molina fight, and just throw him in there with Floyd and Floyd dominates: he beat an overprotected, overrated unexperienced fighter

hopefully you can see where I'm going with this. Canelo is very talented. my problem isn't with floyd fighting a guy who isn't nearly as talented as other guys Floyd has faced like Ortiz. it's the timing of the fight in their careers

there are two sides of 'haters' hating on the floyd/canelo fight: those who think Canelo sucks, and those who think Canelo is unproven and undeserving of the fight

Nothing to say to that, I agree

I'll give Floyd credit for fighting Alvarez. Alvarez is young and inexperienced, but sometimes that is enough to rise to do great things. I also think that Alvarez/Floyd is > Pacquaio/Bradley to be honest.

Floyd has to move up to 154 against someone bigger and stronger. He last moved up against a washed up Oscar, so this time its against a young strong fighter. Alvarez is sure to lay hands on Floyd as well since Floyd's legs aren't what they used to be, so that'll be interesting as well.

I'm sure that Floyd will pick him apart and Alvarez seems to have real suspect stamina, something that Floyd never has, so Alvarez is going to have to come at him hard and tap that body to wear him down. I like the fight. I'd prefer Cotto/Floyd, but this is a good alternative.

Even if Alvarez goes on to be a nobody, I'll still give credit to Floyd because he could have easily cherry picked Guerrero, but at least he's picking someone much bigger, younger, stronger who will be there with him the whole 12 rounds

Of course Mayweather will get minimal credit-- simply because Canelo is an easy fight for him. If Mayweather is claiming to be #1 then fight the #2 Pacquiao or #3 Martinez.

The only way Floyd gets credit for beating Alvarez is if Canelo turns around and beats Kirkland and Cotto within the next year or so. He would also get credit if Canelo goes on to be a 3-4 division champ and have a great career.

RIGHT NOW, it's a C+/B- fight at the highest, and no one can honestly say that it's better than Pacquiao-Bradley, if this is indeed how it plays out. This is the first time in a LONG TIME that I would be left saying "Manny picked a better opponent than Floyd right now". When Manny fought Clottey, Floyd one-upped him big time and fought Mosley when he did. When Manny fought Marquez at 144, Floyd one-upped him and fought a prime Ortiz, coming off wins. RIGHT NOW, it looks like Manny is going to one-up Floyd for the first time in a long time.
