Gamboa vs Rigondeaux would be a good fight .At 126 but I thought I heard Rigondeaux say he has no plans on moving up in weight. He even said he can make 118 easy but no doubt it would be a good fight. Their promotors should stage it in Miami with young prospects Cubans on the undercard. Then maybe a lot of Cubans will go out and support their fighters Gamboa and Rigondeaux. It would be cool to have them in a fight out their in their favor with the crowd going crazy nuts bananas lights flashing from the cameras. Well, you guys get the picture don't let the right cross and left hook hit ya.
from what i gather the vast majority of the miami cubans give surprisingly little support to these guys, i guess the don't identify with the black guys from oriente who stayed long enough in cuba to have very successful and long amateur careers there, representing the island and praising its boxing system still.
gamboa and rigondeaux are very close pals too and have even lived in each other's homes so the chances of them agreeing to a fight whilst there's other options out there are i reckon slim. they boxed each other several times in cuba but that's a little different to a 12 round pro bout where people can get hurt (especially someone fighting either rigo or gamboa..!).
It seens Nonito is afraid to fight Rigo. Forgot about Gamboa. We don't have many cubans fighting pro. And I hate to see they fighting to each other.
RIGONDEAUX THE CHAMPION VS NONITO
i think the donaire match up would be better also but who cares if there both cuban, im black and i was all for the bradily alexander fight mexicans fight mexicans all the time. if they dont fight cuz of weight issues then cool but if they dont fight cuz there both cuban its a lame excuse

I don't think so. Some day it might be; but right now, there are too few Cubans fighting as pros. If the day arrives when Cuban stars are plentiful, then I'll have no problem watching them fight each other.

i respect that man, i just feel it would be MAJOR fireworks and the loser really wouldnt drop far at all, they both have other options so the fight is necessary now but it would be a sick fight

I think there are several reasons for this. One might very well be the color of their skin. Another reason is that many Cuban-Americans have this old, misguided idea that guys like Rigo and Gamboa somehow represent the communist government in Cuba. They're stuck on this notion that supporting them is akin to supporting Castro. Lastly, I think that the realization that Cubans are making noise in pro boxing is coming slowly. It's been decades since this last happened and the Cuban community lost interest. It's going to take some time for them to come around. Watch what happens if Gamboa becomes a real P4P star. There's a lot of money in the Cuban-American community; therefore, there's a lot of potential support.

From what I understand, Guillermo and Yuri fought several times as amateurs. Rigo won all the encounters, from what I've read. It would be interesting to see who comes out on top as pros. I agree that it would be a good fight, based on the contrast in styles. But even if these guys didn't mind fighting each other, they're not likely to because Gamboa is heading up in weight and Rigondeaux is staying put for the foreseeable future.
They fought already in cuba 3 times and rigo won all 3 fights ! I was just in cuba november 6th last year i spoke to alot of cubans out there about both fighters and all of them say rigo beat gamboa really bad all 3 times . I tell them gamboa is the man out here and all they talk about is rigo .
