Berto cant take a punch. I got Cotto finishing him off in the middle rounds.

He didn't fight Mayorga at a catchweight - and he fought margarito at a catchweight of 153, 1 pound south of light middleweight. hardly much of a difference.

I think it's a close fight early on and Cotto starts to cause some damage in the mid rounds and gets a late TKO.

I believe the OP wants us to assume that both would be in their primes for this fantasy matchup, cuz that's what it is, total fantasy lol. No way Cotto fights Berto at this stage in his career.

prime for prime, i would pick Cotto by decision. Berto doesn't have a strong jab, he has speed but he's not a natural combination puncher. He doesn't apply a wicked amount of pressure either. Cotto would box and move, slug in some moments, and I think the fight would be competitive with Cotto getting a 116-112 victory. Berto is athletic enough to make it a tough fight, but I don't think his athleticism or current skill-set would be enough to overwhelm Cotto.

Cotto would win because he has a jab.

Cotto has a poor gas tank at that weight but hey, so does Berto. So the late rounds wouldn't matter. Cotto would win on the cards.

I seriously can't believe people are picking Berto..... ?? Wow. Has he beat anyone to warrant a pick in his favor? He barely got past Callazo, he lost clearly to Ortiz... And his best wins are against guys he had EVERY advantage against. A 140 pound Forbes and a 140 pound Urango. He didn't look particularly amazing against either by the way.

Cotto is by far on a different level then Berto. He has wins against Mosley, Judah, Clottey, Mayorga, Margarito and a ton of b level wins like Torres, Malignaggi, etc..

Cotto would embarrass Berto and the fight would be stopped if Berto was still on his feet by round 7

Cotto beats Berto, maybe out classes him to UD or late stoppage.

I think people throughout Cotto's career have doubted him simply because he is a vulnerable fighter. But what makes his an exceptional fighter is being able to overcome which he's done several times. I mean, he's got 2 losses, 1 to P4P one of the best fighters in the world. There's nobody Berto's faced that i'd even compare to the version of Judah Cotto fought. Like everyone else has mentioned, Cotto's a better boxer, smarter fighter, more experienced and can handle speed along with Berto not having really good defense.
