Athleticism doesn't exactly equal overall boxing skill and defense. It's mostly speed, explosiveness and reflexes. Berto's defense is horrible, as athletic as he is.
Cotto has the advantage in experience, jab, 154lbs. weightclass experience, timing, RESUME, and overall boxing skills.
Berto's advantage is just athleticism and speed.
Both have a good amount of power, and both are known to gas in the later rounds.
Cotto wins an quite exciting UD, something like 117-114, with Berto suffering 1 knockdown via left hook, and Cotto getting rocked and hurt a few times.Last edited by boxingsmash69; 01-22-2012, 04:44 PM.Comment

WOW @ some people in here...Berto has 0 chance of beating Cotto and would get KO'd. Berto gasses out by his own imagine when a guy like Cotto delivers a body attack LOL. Cotto can o him to the body or head with relative ease.
Seriously....Comment

Berto lay on the ropes like he did against Ortiz and he goes down by KO from a left hook to the bodyComment

I tend to think Berto is pretty tough, although Cotto doesn't have that much power he could hit him a lot especially at range. There is danger at range for Cotto also because he is a sucker for the upper cut and Berto does throw a heck of an uppercut so if Berto makes him miss, not throw first or mitigates the blow enough to come back effectively there is a lot of danger for Cotto.
Berto would also have to grapple a lot since that is his best form of not getting hit, and if he has good stamina he could tire Cotto out like that also making his speed and power advantages easier to exploit.
Cotto probably deserves to be the favorite though, he looks the superior fighter but Berto's strange amalgamation of attributes might just be enough to beat what should be a superior man.Comment
