thats the thing, at his age 37 and having minimal body fat means he will

be losing muscle to get down to that weight and at that point you are

messing with your central nervous system, very detrimental..

think if floyd tried to get down to 140 what it would do...

look at dlh when he drained to fight pac, he had to lose muscle and had

      no reflexes at all....

another example, rjj after winning the hw title, lost all that muscle to fight

light hw with tarver, barely escaped and has never been the same

losing fat is acceptable, these guys are in the best shape possible, very

little body fat so losing muscle is very unhealthy,

martinez weighed in the 170-80 range for a check up type weigh in many weeks out from one of his fights at MW (i believe it was the second williams fight, but i'm not certain without checking around to verify)

he's not a little guy by any stretch, martinez

he's got 76 inches of reach
        that's a Heavyweight

I know yall wanna see Floyd lose and I know that all the people biitching about Floyd showing what a real champion is made of would have no problem with Sergio coming down to 147 to face Manny so just cut the BS!!!!!!!!!
It's not about wanting Floyd to lose, it's about him sticking to his guns. He should be confident enough to fight at 154. There's no buts and ifs about it, Floyd should stick to his anti-catch weight code. I know the Marquez bout was at catch weight, but it was before he preached against CW fights. Now he has no choice but to let Martinez have the comfort level playing field to make it competitive by fighting him at 154.

          • I don't like catchweights. I feel like they affect the bigger man coming down moreso than the smaller guy moving up. That said, as long as no title is on the line, I can tolerate them. Even at that, I think 154 would be a little fairer. Either way, Mayweather-Martinez is the fight I most want to see. The catchweight will cheapen a Mayweather win a little. But it in no way kills any of the excitement I have for the match-up.

With day before weigh-ins, I really don't care about catch-weights. If we had same day weigh-ins then sure. But, with day before weigh-ins...Meh.

Honestly there was nothing wrong with Chavez-Whitaker being at a catch-weight. No one was at a disadvantage in that fight cuz' of the weight. The only thing wrong with that fight was the scorecard.

I look at Oscar-Hopkins. Had a catch-weight of 158, and really no one truly cared back then. And, Hopkins to prove a point came in at 156 which made it quite funny.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with catch-weight fights. Unless someone is truly drained then OK. But, just because a fight is at a catch-weight doesn't mean that there's automatic advantage/disadvantage or a fighter is drained like some make it seem. Yea it can happen. But, if you look at history more fighters are drained for staying at a division too long then actually being drained in catch-weight fights.

              • I think Floyd will get more credit fighting Canelo at 154 than Sergio at 150.

Who cares if he's inexperienced. Or if he's been hyped up by HBO, it will only make Floyd look that much better if he wins.

Canelo will come in fight night with a great size advantage. He has good power, and decent speed. I didn't like Canelo at first, but I think now he's alright. I think a Sergio fight would be boring.

                • This is what Martinez said himself in November.

We are working on a long-term plan to stabilise my weight at 154 pounds in case a fight with Mayweather can be organised,' Martinez said. 'To be considered the best pound for pound I just need this little push, a great fight with one of the two.

He was 165lb against Barker and is obviously working on keeping himself from ballooning up. I doubt he's walking around at 170+ anymore. He has to keep his weight down if he wants to land a big fight against Mayweather/Pacquiao/Cotto. It makes no sense to just lie about his weight for those of you who think he is.

I say if you or anyone else don't like the fight then don't watch it's as simple as that.
