He does bring up good points about other trainers not winning TOTY despite training one of the best fighter's of an era.
Valero had the ability to (although people will continue to look at him as a one dimensional slugger because of his crude punching technique even though his footwork and timing were excellent and he barely ever lost a round), but it can't be proven in the ring.
I'm not so convinced of his argument re trainer of the year argument. Roy and Floyd train themselves. They always have. Moreover, they turned pros after performances at the Olympics where they were both arguably the best boxers in the entire field at any weight class (despite only winning bronze medals because of controversial decisions). They were therefore known and well respected quan****** before turning pro. Their performances at the professional level simply built on this.
Pacquaio is different. When Freddie took over his training, Pacquiao was very raw. He was really a one handed fighter. Just watch Morales 1 vs. Morales 3 and see how much he's developed. it is clear that Roach has been a huge part in his transformation whereas that was never really true with either RJJ or Floyd. I think Freddie's work with Pacquiao (although different) is more comparable to Emanuel Steward's work with Klitschko (and his confidence). They have totally transformed fighters into impressive champiions. Nobody did that with Floyd or RJJ.
Also, Shane was mostly successful in slowing down Pacquiao because he didn't do a damn thing in the fight. It pains me to say because he is one of my all-time favorite fighters and I think, in his prime at 135 he'd have taken either Pacquiao or Mayweather. But, man, he didn't come to fight that night, especially after Pacquiao knocked him down. He has been a shadow of himself since his close loss to Cotto.

He was his own worst enemy (as the murder of his wife and subsequent suicide shows).
What the hell is wrong with the people on this forum now; HE WAS FIGHTING AT 135 POUNDS!!!!... How could we know his power would be as effective at 147; Pacquiao was getting hit by Margarito weighing 160lbs and was for the most part unphased... He hasn't been knocked down for years; but skinny ass overrated one dimensional Valero, who fought a bunch of bums in Venezuela that no one has heard of, and best win was against Antonio Demarco... Antonio Demarco... was gonna move up 12lbs and give Manny Pacquiao a run for his money? Bwhahah man you kids these daysLast edited by Ekscape; 01-18-2012, 05:01 PM.
