Both at this point is unknown quantity at that weight division. Neither faced a top 4-5 at that division.
Losing to elite fighters in your weight division is the only proof that you cannot... Lack of proof of the conclusion of a fight between you and the elite fighters of your class... Is only that... Lack of proof...

Any fighter can be both underrated and overrated based on who is doing the rating and what the rating is... Like I said.

Let me put it this way. Do you think Cotto should be rank #1 and Canelo should be rank #2 respectively at that weight division?

Please, Cotto wouldn't even win. Forget about winning "badly". Canelo probably knocks Cotto out, he is much more physically stronger and more naturally a 154 fighter. Canelo also has pretty good defense and is very heavy handed. Cotto's defense is poor and he can get hit by slow guys like Margarito, who Canelo is faster than.

Ryan Rhodes was ranked #4 when Canelo beat him.

I believe Foreman was top 5 when Cotto beat him. So they do each have the same amount of fights against top 5 JMW's. I know for sure Rhodes was #4 but I'm not sure about Foreman, I think he was.

Good point. I didn't consider the ranking of they beat. I really would like a tourney in this weight division.

LOL just look at this Cotto hating ******.

Cotto beats the crap out of Canelo. Cotto's much less talented and smaller brother had Canelo on ***** street and Gomez was beating his ass. Get real here Cotto would pick this kid apart the only chance he would have is a lucky shot.

Cotto stops Alvarez, too much boxing ability. No doubt in my mind. I'm a fan of both fighters.

At this stage I would say Cotto edges him out but I don't know about stopping him. One thing that I'm very impressed about Canelo is his ability to be patient and move to avoid shots.

In his earlier fights he was more stationary and wanted to brawl more, now he shows incredible patience for a guy his age.

I think Cotto outboxes him though and gets UD at this stage but you never know with Canelo's size. His size and power might give Cotto problems if Canelo can make it a rough fight inside.

In a year or two he and Alvarez could be fighting on even terms , if it happens in May I see Cotto stopping him late. Cotto is simply too much of a step up and Canelo gets hit too much to fight Cotto yet.

I would favor Cotto. I think Cotto beats him. But, I don't think it will be easy. Canelo will have his moments. And, make it somewhat competitive at the very least.
