Cotto would have MAULED Hatton. I love me some Ricky Hatton, but he was a different level fighter from Cotto. Miguel would have chopped him down and maybe stopped him, but it wouldn't have been overly competitive.

Hatton was a decent fighter, not a great. Had a very good win over Tszyu but Tszyu wasn't prime himself.

Cotto was a better fighter than Hatton in every possible way. Better boxer, better technical skills, faster, stronger, better footwork, better defense, etc.
i dont believe cottos chin was better at 140 and his power was only a hair better at 140. another reason i give hatton a good chance against cotto at 140 is that the weight worked against cotto and for hatton. hatton had great pressure, power and chin to give cotto problems and the weight would give hatton another edge. like i said i wouldnt bet the farm on hatton but i confidently bet 50 bucks on hatton.

I take it that the only thing you know about Hatton was that he was knocked out by Manny in two rnds huh?

That's what the newbies all think.
Unfortunately I think Hattons lifestyle caught up with him and that plus the Mayweather KO & The Manny KO tends to be the only thing people remember.
He had a few close fights that could have gone either way but who doesn't have those?

Getting KO'd by Guys who alternate between 1&2 p4p isn't too shaby.

Hatton's pressure though wouldn't be as dramatic as Margarito's due to his size. On top of that, Hatton always left himself wide open when he lunged in, Cotto was and is still and underrated counter puncher and would definitely hit Hatton with hard shots coming. Cotto's body work as well when he was at 140 was 2nd to none (I'd put it over Hatton's as well) along with having a variety of punches and better combinations overall.

Hatton outhustled Collazo by a mile and knocked him down even though he was moving up in weight.

Nobody said Tszyu was past his prime until he fought Hatton. He showed no signs of being faded or shot in that fight whatsoever.

Cotto was rocked at 140 a few times and he didn't actively seek a fight with Hatton either. I can't recall one time he even mentioned Hatton's name at all. I have been a Hatton supporter since about 2002.

Cotto's always been known to fight whoever they put in front of him. Him not mentioning Hatton doesn't mean he was clear out ducking him. Based on the vid I posted, Warren seemed to not want anything to do with Cotto.

In fairness, I don't think Cotto started calling out opponents until recently.
I think it'd be a great fight. I think it rides alot of Cotto's mental strength and his ability to be rocked at 140, that gives Hatton a good shot.

I think Tszyu was definately the smarter fight, based on the risk/reward ratio, would have been cool to watch him fight Cotto though.

As you said before, that's speculation. I would have thought Hatton would have been knocked out by Tszyu's straight right hand at that time as well but he wasn't. He ate em over and over and still got to him and stopped him.

I think you are underestimating Hatton too much based solely on his fight with Pacquiao.

Cotto didn't feel capable enough at the weight to take on the top guys like Tzyu, Hatton or Floyd. Hence the move up to 147.
