    Foreman hand speed?

Im not dis*****g the punching power of foreman because many people recognize him as the hardest puncher in the history of our beloved sport. but... when i watch film (and he is not one of my favorite fighters, although much respected) he seems awful slow and stationary. maybe its the old cameras, but he doesnt seem to have the hand speed that some of my more favorite punchers had (tyson in particular) and he doesnt seem to have the explosive hip movements either. hell he doesnt even look like he trying to punch hard, but its evident that he does. now i know a big part of fighting is being elusive, which may be the exact answer to my question, but my question is, how does someone who looks to be so slow, be such a feared fighter in the ring. You look at tyson vs lewis, tyson never had slow hands, yet lewis picked him apart because tyson stopped moving his head (probably due to conditioning?). Foreman never moved his head (so it looked) yet fighters seemed to be afraid of using the counterpunch regardless of his seemingly slow demeanor. Am i missing something here vets? or was foreman just that elusive in the ring.

He had the physical strength, intimidation and determination to make up for his lack of boxing fundamentals. He was able to walk through most opponents due to his power and chin, but that ultimately ran out when he came across a guy that wouldn't be scared and could outsmart him (Ali).

He smartened up in his comeback I feel.

I've always found Foreman's punching style unusual, he must have had so much power behind his punches, because at times they looked like nothing. The right that knocked Moorer out an example.

His timing and distance were excellent, and more than made up for his lack of hand speed. he wasn't the most intelligent young fighter but when he was older he really smartened up.

He also had the strength, power and chin to make up for most of his shortcomings in foot and hand speed.

The timing on his jab was perfect, it pretty much allowed him to set up everything else.

too many goodies hear to even respond to all of them individually. yes he did have a nice jab. he definately had a chin which would make him intimidating when you know, you can hit this guy n it aint gonna hurt him. his chin alone was unreal. evander holyfield (who isnt one of my favorite fighters either) whipped that chin, and georgy was ready to fall, but he never did. are there things you can do to make your chin better? also how do you get your brain to tell your body to be comfortable taking that many punches? even if they dont hurt, your still gettin popped....

70's Foreman was a rare breed. It's already been said in this thread, his incredible power, strength and intimidation made up for his lack of hand speed and skill.

Ironically, for someone who was intimidating, Foreman said years back in an interview that he was scared of Frazier, and that he was just glad to have ended it so quickly.

I think Ali said he was also scared of Fraizer.

His punches weren't slow, they were average speed, and sometimes quite quick

The thing is he telegraphed his blows. You can see them start before he cut loose. That makes them look slower than they really were.
