That's a good question. I remember Arum telling us that he spoke to GBP then admitting at his midnight press conference that he hadn't spoken to anyone but Ross Greenburg. Greenburg then said he spoke to both parties about the fight which, as any human with a brain would realize, is something he probably did every time he spoke to them back then. Never in my life have I heard of a negotiation where the party that claims one is taking place also admits that they never once contacted the other party. But again, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that anybody who refuses to speak to the other side, then throws in a deadline with a countdown clock on his website, then holds a conference call at midnight, was never ever serious about negotiating anything but his way out of the fight.I tend to believe there were negotiations simply due to what you mention.
To refresh my memory though, did they specify who was involved in these negotiations?
I could see the difference between serious and scheduled negotiations with a third party mediator compared to some random phonecalls between golden boy and top rank representatives.Comment

The countdown was grandstanding nonsense that strongly implied he knew Mayweather wasn't taking the fight then. I don't doubt there were serious talks prior. That whole thing was kept lidded tight for a while. That's a good question. This was in mid-2010. Pac hadn't left or even breathed of leaving for Showtime yet. Greenburg lying doesn't make sense in that context. he wouldn't want to piss off either cash cow.Comment
