Cotto is a distant 3rd in the cash cow ranch next to Floyd and Manny, has a big fan base, consistently on PPV with good numbers, and is a guy (similar to Mosley) whom Boxing fans wanted to see paired up in a fight, and Cotto is actually a bit younger than Floyd.

I don't see at this stage Floyd taking on an up and comer or a seemingly unknown.

..and Floyd isn't in his mid-late twenties either. We gotta remember, Floyd is still great, but he's clearly an older, yet smarter fighter. He outboxed an older Mosley (older than when Cotto fought him), an inexperienced Ortiz. In comparison to those 2, even today, Cotto presents a better challenge even if Floyd is still heavily favored. Different style match up from either Ortiz or Mosley, and IMO still a good fight for Floyd to be in.

You make some good points, I just don't feel this fight is "big" (well, it'd make a ton of money but I mean meaningful) and you might disagree but I feel that Ortiz was a bigger threat to Floyd than this version of Cotto will be. You're right, it's still a good fight but I much rather see Floyd against Martinez.
