Rubio has improved since he was defeated against Pavlik. After he beat Lemieux I heard an interview with him and he was talking about how he was a lot more focused now and how he was working harder to become a world champion. IMO he has a good chance of beating Chavez Jr since Jr has a terrible defense and Rubio hits very hard.
Oh and I don't know how Chavez Jr has proved to have a "good chin", I mean the guy has faced mostly bums and light punchers, and his hardest fight was against a feather fist Zbik who landed over 400 punches on Chavez Jr.
Am I the only one who sees Chavez winning this fight?? I think he will win not because hes good but if Rubio could beat him then i doubt they would have taken this fight, Rubio hits hard but Jnr has shown a gd chin. Also the guy Rubio beat lost his next fight and even before he lost to Rubio he hadn't fought anyone.
Plus Rubio has not performed well enough in his previous title opportunities and is giving up a fair bit of size. I wish him the best though but i see him losing by late stoppage.
I agree, Chavez should have this. This is great timing to take this fight because Rubio has been on a tear and earned the shot....but in reality, he's older and slower than he's ever been. Even so, I feel this current Chavez would be tough and competitive with any version of Rubio during his come up as a prospect...now he's considered a late bloomer of sorts. The only reason they were hesitant to make this lately was because Rubio's high confidence during this KO/TKO streak...not because of his style,
Yes, he has power and yes he is going to land, but as you said JR has shown a good chin. The matchmaker must have felt more confident after the seeing Rubio/Vanda fight. Whatever the reason, I think we all like the matchup at this point.
I am happy that the people who think they need to protect JR are growing a pair. I'm looking forward to it because the matchup is meaningful and should give JR some credibility if he wins.
