thats no problem for me, especially with a fighter like norris, who @ 147, could render you defenseless with one punch...he matched speed with mel taylor, and mel taylor was the fastest man on the planet at one time...

just too bad that fmj, quartey, dlh, tito, was coming up when norris was pretty much done...he was a beast @ 147, and wasn't too bad @ 154, shaky chin, but i don't think fmj would shake him, and not too many outboxed him, and if he got you hurt, was a heartless finisher, except when he spared srl because srl was his idol...

Tommy Hearns would be the betting favourite against Mayweather at 147 and 154. Andd rightfully so. The safe bet in that fight is Hearns.

The same applies for Leonard at 147. He'd be the safe bet. Solely down to the fact he's beaten better fighters and would be far ahead the best fighter, with the most tools that Mayweather has ever faced.

This applies for plenty of fighters at 147.

What about Mike McCallum? Would anyone bet against a prime McCallum Vs. Mayweather at 154? I wouldn't.
I disagree. Floyd over Hearns, SRL, McCallum... anybody. I didn't mention 154 for a reason... I don't think Floyd is an established 154 lb'er. Maybe one of those guys or somebody else would beat Floyd... but I would not put lots of money on it.

I think when dealing with fighters head to head, it's only really fair to focus on one or two weight classes, ie - Delahoya at 135 and 140, Floyd at 130 and 135. Because as fighters move up, too many things change and become factors.
I'm not asking you to name a guy in each weight class. If you think it's best to focus on one division that's fine. All I'm asking for are names. Who and why? My argument is simply Floyd is the safest bet. Not saying he will win without a doubt... only the most trustworthy.

I wouldn't go with ODLH though for obvious reasons. He was too outclassed in a division he had a weight advantage in. With an even playing field at 135 or 140 Floyd would also be faster.

I agree, that Hatton was a beast. That fight would have been a toss up @ 140 and would have been a lot closer had Hatton not been fighting Floyd and Cortez that night.

You disagree. But you're not asking what we think You think is the safest bet.

You're asking what the safest bet would be if Mayweather were to fight certain fighters.

And the fact is, against Hearns, Leonard and others Mayweather would not be the safe bet to take against them.

If an established, prime Mayweather were to fight an established, prime Ray Leonard I absolutely garantee that Leonard would be at the very least a 1/3 favourite. And the majority would feel the same way.

Of course, as always, a handful would bet otherwise. But the safe bet would be considered Leonard. Which, is what you're asking.

The straight answer to your question is; No, Mayweather would not be the 'safe bet' against every single fighter who has fought between 130 and 147. He simply wouldn't. It can't be put any other way.

He wouldn't be the most trustworthy, though.

What actually happens in the fight aside. Around 8/10 gamblers people would bet on Hearns to win.

                  Making him the safest bet.

Betting on Mayweather to beat Hearns is not a safe bet at all.

Safest bets over weights Floyd established himself in IMO

                    130 - Floyd
                    135 - Mosley/Whitaker
                    140- Delahoya
                    147- Leonard/Robinson
