This is to the people who think he isnt already HOF material, what is the MINIMUM he would have to do at this point to make the cut?

What would it take for Cotto to make the HOF

Completely clean out 154 and unify all the titles, or at least clean out the top half of the division. Then go back down to 147, beat Mayweather & avenge his loss to Pacquiao, and make a few defenses against top ten contenders as unified champ. THEN he'll get in based on merit instead of popularity.

He needs a decent win at 154 IMO
I just dunno any more, big fan and always was and will be but I really don't know where he stands atm
So for u Dan would i dunno say a Saul Alvarez win at 154 be enough to sneak him in?
Regardless of people here's opinion he WILL get in. Massive star and an Icon in PR and has also brought some real excitement to the game in high profile fights which is rightly or wrongly seemingly a factor.....

Avenge the Pacquiao loss YES.
I don't think he needs to fight Mayweather to be eligible for HOF status.
Unify 154 for sure, and defend it for several years, maybe dropping a little down to Welter for a fight or two, but staying and putting in a lockdown in the 154 division like the Klitschko brothers are doing to the HW division.

If he beat Canelo for me he deserves his spot. Canelo gets a lot of stick but reality is he is a damn good fighter & for his age sensational.
You gotta look at it I guess as Cotto has only lost to two guys, 1 guy naturally huge & maybe cheating yet he avenged that and once to arguably the world p4p.
His resume is stronger than most give him credit for.
A lot will laugh but for me he is borderline ATG, few more good wins & his legacy is firm as far as I am concerned.

I dont want this thread to turn nasty but as far as im concerned Margarito 100% cheated vs Miguel 1st time. That loss barely counts in my eyes and sadly it has effected him since, it put alot of miles on his clock.
No shame in losing to Pacquaio and at a catchweight either
Honestly though if he is on the fringes of making the Hall then a Pacquaio win in a rematch makes him a dead cert, and its a fight i feel he could win if he brings the right game plan, high stamina and a cool head.
