    How is Martinez too big for Mayweather?

    Martinez is a natural JMW from what I've seen, while Floyd has been a top WW for a while now. I don't see why they can't fight. Many posters constantly bring up how he is too big, but he is only 2 inches taller than Floyd with 3 inches in reach advantage.

    Hearns had a 4 inch reach advantage on Leonard and three inches in height.

    Floyd would only have to put on three pounds of weight to fight Martinez as he is offering a 150 lb. catchweight whereas Martinez would have to put on 8 to fight a SMW, although Bute apparently offered a 164 lb. catchweight. That being said I could understand why Martinez would want Mayweather over Bute given his age (way more money with Floyd surely plays a role) and that Floyd is apparently considering fighters like Guerrero who imo don't deserve the shot (yet). Furthermore, Floyd already fought at JMW against De La Hoya.

    Floyd comes in at around 154lb's on fight night, IF THAT, while Martinez comes in at around 167lb's.

      I believe Martinez came in around 165 at fight night aginst Barker and I'm sure he'd come in less with Floyd as he says he would be trying to lose the weight to reach 150 lbs. at the weigh-in in a healthy manner.

        When Bute was asked about Martinez, he said maybe 166 (not 164) without much conviction. It sounded like he wasn't really THAT interested because he had plenty of opponents at 168.

          Sergio = Middleweight
          - Light Middleweight
          Mayweather = Welterweight

            The only thing Bute is interested in is playing hide & seek.

              As if fighters from different weight classes have never fought.

                Martinez isn't too big, he's just clearly bigger. I don't see a real incentive for Mayweather to take that fight. A catch-weight fight would be a joke, and going up to '54 to fight him would give Martinez a clear advantage.

                  Floyd fought Oscar at 154. He's got no excuse for not fighting Martinez...apart from PPV figures, which i suppose is the most important thing to Floyd.

                    I would not consider it a joke. If Martinez offers one and believes he can hit it then I don't see anything wrong with that especially if Floyd is going to give the fight to someone like Guerrero instead. There's nothing inherently better about seeing them fight at 154 lbs. than 152 lbs.
