That's irrelevant in this case since the linear world champion is going to be the real world champion. And while I agree with you about Erdei's joke of a resume, that is a poor comparison. The winner of the Super Six will have an excellent resume (which is far better than that of Bute.)

That would be treating Bute as an equal. He is not. (assuming Froch wins tomorrow night.)

        oh please...

Bute is the most popular 168 pounder in the world, he puts the most butts in the seats, and he's on the big networks

he is more than an equal as far as business sense is concerned

It's only better than Bute because Bute was excluded from the Super 6. If the winner then ducks Bute indefinitely they will forfeit any right to be called a champion by anyone who gives a damn about boxing as a sport.

As for Erdei's "joke of a resume" my point was the principle of the thing. You were trying to imply that the only thing that matters is who is technically the lineal champion, and that who the champion chooses to fight is irrelevant. But you've backed down on your position when it comes to Erdei. So the principle you were claiming to support is not valid.

Agree, mostly. Bute has to be willing to travel probably. His nest egg is strong and management might not go that way. Unless the winner goes up to 75, they have about a two fight window before Bute is a must. 2012...6 v. Bute gotta happen.

Your link is broken but the article is here.

It does seem clear that Bute is genuinely keen for the fight to happen and for it to be on neutral territory. So it's all down the the Super 6 winner, they just have to agree.

You want to consider the lineal championship "vacant" if the winner doesn't fight Bute. I'm telling you that you're wrong, since linearity is only lost by getting beat in the ring or vacating (due to moving up/down in weight, retirement, etc.)

If you want to say that the best fighter in the division happens to not be the linear champ that is perfectly acceptable. This was indeed the case during Erdei's reign.

But you'd have a hell of hard time proving it in this instance since the Super Six winner will have the better resume.
