  • A modern controversial fight revisited: Cotto vs. Clottey scorecard

I just finished watching this fight for, from what I remember, the third time. The first time I did not score it, but the other two I did. I have noticed that both my scorecards read the same at the end and that was a 114-113 win for Cotto.

I could understand the fight going the other way, but I confirmed what I always believed and that was that Cotto earned a razor thin decision that was decided by a knockdown.

I would like to read some scorecards from other posters.

114-113 clottey first time, and every time after. The 12th round magically went to everyones card as a cotto round because of a hook he landed, they ignored everything clottey did.

The fight was on the Puerto Rican Parade Weekend and in a PR filled MGS with Cotto being Top Ranks and HBOs big attraction. Clottey would have had to kill Cotto to win that fight regardless how anyone scored it. The proof was in Don Trellas scorecard. 116-111, lol. Really? He even gave cotto one of the rounds clottey dominated.

    I remember this fight vividly.

Had Cotto by a round but can understand it being the other way.

And imo if cottos eye was never cut like that i think he would have won more convincly even with the **** trainer he had.

I think you might be referring to the 11th because the 12th was clearly Cotto's. The 11th was the one when Cotto landed a couple of left hooks, one of them flush, when he was fighting off the ropes.

Clottey won every aspect of the fight. He was the aggressor, landed the cleaner punches, landed more punches.

I had Cotto win the fight by one point because of the first round knockdown.

With the extra pt cuz of the knockdown, the only way Clottey wins the fight is if he wins 8rds. 6-6 is an obvious draw. 7-5 Clottey, with the extra pt for Cotto would make it a draw. So for Josh to win, he would have had to win 8 rds. No way he won 8rds. Don't forget guys, Cotto fought with 1 eye basically from rd3 to the final bell. He gets props for that in my book.

Same here. I remember watching the fight again and getting that exact same score and going, "Cotto's knockdown of Clottey affected that fight. My God."

And if I view it again, I might get the same scorecard. That fight had a couple of rounds that were close.
