Forget about world class fighters and champions being cited as over hyped, Brits do over hype some just awful fighters who really aren't very good at all.

I think its unfair to call Hatton a hype job. He lost to Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, two of the greatest fighters we've seen in years. He had a great career otherwise.

As for Khan I think he'll bounce back from this loss and learn from it.

I wouldn't call Hatton, Froch, Khan, Lewis, or Calzaghe hype jobs.

Just thinking about guys like Hamed, Hatton & Khan.
I dont really think its hype its just we dont see the fighter come through the ranks. Take Gary Russel Jr for example. The more fights we see of him the more we can gauge his improvement over time. Now if he reaches the elite level we can gauge how well he will do based on the fact that we have witnessed his career unfold ala Miguel Cotto. With a lot of British fighters we judge with a different measuring stick because we have not seen their career unfold and we are told that they are legit once they reached the pinnacle level so of course we respond with the question "who have they fought"? Its not really hype, we are just coming at the fighters with a different perspective. Of course no one should be called great until they prove themselves at the elite level but the idea is that you want more proof when you havent seen the fighters career unfold in front of you.

Hatton, Froch, Lewis, Calzaghe I agree.

Khan for all of his amateur pedigree, and experience at the world level should be much better than he is. Way too many questions about him. Not even a guarantee that he can beat Berto or Ortiz once he moves up to 147.

I think some British boxers from the 80's and 90's deserved their hype because they could back it up.

...but for the most part, i on British Boxers of today.

^^^^^ All hyped up more than British fighters during the years. Tell me, why do you have a chip on your shoulder over a small, island nation, nestled in the far away Atlantic?

Don't forget Oritz, Pavlik and others.

Brits don't get hyped as much as some Americans. I remember reading that Alexander was the next Ray Robinson by almost every American. Now the same thing is happening with Benevidez, who has achieved nothing really.

You can't call Hatton a hype job. He was a relentless bulldog with the heart of a lion. You would never see Hatton het KO'd then get up and grin his head off, ie Ortiz.
