What a pathetic article from Lyle.

I guess I can't take his seriously anymore.

If it's not Greisman or Rold then the article is almost always some biased bull**** on this website.

Am I the only one that saw Amir pushing down on Lamonts head everytime he came close to him, and headlocking when he could. All while looking at the ref like fighting on the inside isn't allowed. Both knockdowns could have been ruled slips, and khan still could've won the first round 10-8. Strange close fight, was going to be controversial no matter what, so let's give the ref a break on this one. Khan is lucky to have excuses, fact is, for two rounds I believe Amir could compete with Floyd or Pac. The guys skill is obvious, but that drive in training to get to that next level seems absent. Let's just say trainer/fighter of the year is wide open.

They're having a rematch, who cares? It was a good close fight, doesn't matter who won since they're fighting again and we get two good fights in a row. The point deductions were fine, you can't get warned 10x and not get penalized.

Nope. Everyone saw it, but some are chosing to ignore for the sake of their argument.

Khan was exposed on Saturday. I reckon there's at least half a dozen fighters that would take him apart.

The only down side is we might never get to see Mayweather destroy him.

What the hell was this writer watching? Peterson by no means fought a dirty fight. How many clashes of heads were there? I can't even remember one. As far as I'm concerned the ref did a stand up job. People are just butt hurt because he took a point in the last round. In my opinion he should have took the 2nd point a hell of a lot sooner. Khan had plenty of warnings.

The writer didn't mention Khan pushing off with the elbows, the constant leaning down on Peterson's neck and let us not forget those headlocks. All these kind of tactics spoil fights, I wish more refs would deduct points for such antics.
I agree completely with your post. In fact that so-called KD which cost Peterson a point was a huge elbow shove into the ropes when Peterson was going backwards off balance. I don't know how anyone could have missed it. The analysts certainly saw it, and commented.

Cooper did a very good job, in fact I don't know when I've seen a better. If it isn't Smoger, allowing MMA tactics without blinking an eye and stopping fights much too late, to Cortez jumping in like an agitated frog whenever his favourite in the fight might be on the verge of receiving a body attack, the available refs are a very mixed lot. And to me, Cooper should have been seen a lot more. He remined me pf the previous generation refs, instead of breaking the guys up for infighting, he told them to stop holding and "fight on" or "fight out of it", and they always did. Which is the proper way to interfere as little as possible. You could count the number of real clinches on the fingers of both hands. They way a fight should be conducted.

I feel that Khan wan running a lot and Lamont was coming the whole fight.

I feel khan was running the whole fight, and anytime it got rough he started pushing lamonts head down and even after the point deduction he continued to push lamont and put him in head locks.

Yes Fitz-Fitz is really a so partial and very poor writer. I'm surprised you included Greisman as being a good writer. I was hoping they'd drop his "Fighting Words" which was the most predictable, pedantic, already well known, useless rubbish I've read in years. The strange thing is, that when he started it, the first dozen or so were actually good, but he "got out of the habit". The only interesting part for a long time has been the "10 count" which gave interesting information otherwise rarely available to us.

Now I notice that he is actually reporting almost daily, giving factual boxing news as it happens, which is a VAST improvement, and, in fact, some of the best reporting I've read for a long time. He should stick with this. It improves BoxingScene and shows me that he is actually a very good reporter.....as long as he keeps away from writing philosophical literary "gems".....

A rematch looms on the horizon for Lamont Peterson. Bradley wants one, Khan will feel he has grounds to demand one. The later within six months would get my vote. Khan's post fight reaction wasn't very becoming of a champion. Neither was his actions in the ring. Peterson wasn't there to simply fight, he was there to take away the championship, something that Khan seemed to overlook. Khan felt that Peterson was coming in with his head low. In the absence of the knowledge and craft to deal with that, he tried to spoil and continually appealed to an unresponsive referee. Meanwhile his infighting was left by the wayside.

No doubt Khan will learn from this fight, yet it is a little disconcerting to hear him say that he wants to get the rematch 'out of the way' before moving up to 147lbs. Peterson will come into the rematch with a level of preparation that will eclipse that of the first fight. Knowing now that he has to adopt to a style of fighting that is counter to his usual and having a full training camp to fine tune that into his his first plan of action rather than his second.

Suffice to say, though, that the whole of Saturday’s show from Washington, D.C. has me conflicted.

First off, regardless of who actually won the fight-of-the-year-quality main event (Lamont Peterson) – and/or who actually deserved to (Amir Khan) – my forecast of a final showcase performance by Khan on the way to a super cash-out a division north was, shall we say, a bit off.

Had Michael Buffer spat "and still" rather than "and new" after what seemed an inordinate mathematical delay at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the handsome Brit with Pakistani tribal roots would still have had some serious image-reclamation work to do.

By any measure, his performance was disappointing.

And needless to say, even winning a chaotic scrap at 140 with a guy who’d gone 0-1-1 in his two biggest fights wouldn’t have been the most convincing evidence that Khan – even at 27-1 – was rightful heir to the P4P thrones now held by the Mayweathers and Pacquiaos at 147.

It was barely worthy, in fact, of court jesters Berto, Ortiz and Jones.

While he looked intermittently brilliant letting his hands go and befuddling Peterson with movement, there were far too many occasions when Khan was drawn into firefights and apparently flummoxed by his inability to render a less-skilled foe unconscious, or at least unwilling.

Being completely truthful here, I can say, ithout hesitation, that Khans, whole performance, except for a pitifully few "episodes" reminded me of the last 5 rds of the Oscar_ Trinidad fight, more than anything else. I think being with Golden Balls brings him too close to Oscar's influence. Boxing influence I mean.

And what about half blind writers who also have no concept of what "male good looks" really are??

                      My sentiments exactly.

The line about Khan's handsome looks had me almost falling out of my seat in disbelief.
