Beating an even more overrated pwill and a semisober alcoholic is not enough to warrant a top p4p rating in my book.

I dislike the word 'overrate', since it really depends who youre talking to.

I think more or less hes rated fairly though. His best wins over Pavlik and Williams are looking less impressive day by day, and even his secondary wins like Cintron and Dzin are starting to take hits.

that being said, his natural talent makes him clearly the best at 154/160 currently, even though as a middleweight champ I honestly dont think hes exactly standout impressive considering the previous depth of the division.

In today's more or less shallow boxing world, hes still a top 5 p4p fighter.

This is exactly how I feel. As far as who can beat him, I think Golovkin or a returning Arthur Abraham (to 160) could do it.

Good gracious P Willie was overhyped. I bought into it also so I can't blame anyone else.

LOL at Paul Wlliams being overhyped just because he couldn't recover from the brutal KO that Martinez gave him

He's making the MW division look so shallow because of his refusal to fight guys like Pirog. . . He's the biggest farce in boxing, not so much for his natural talent, but the fact that people believe him to be "the people's champ", in that he doesn't fight for money. . . ALL HE CARES about his money. . . And it's hypocrtical for him to criticize guys like cotto, pac, and floyd for not fighting him, when HE'S NOT WILLING to fight bigger guys at 168, OR EVEN the BEST IN HIS DIVISION! He uses the excuse "they don't do enough for me". . .

He's a uniquely talented fighter because of his skill-set, but i think he is overrated, and i don't think he has much longer on top. . . He has very fast feet, and fast hands. . . He has NO DEFENSE (can't use a guard to block punches). . Can't fight going backwards, and his stamina only holds when he's fighting at HIS PACE. . . HE welts and swells easily. . . Eats jabs at will. . .

If you're asking can he bear Floyd or Pacman since you put them in the opening post then Martinez beats them both at 154. Floyd fights well enough to make the final bell & Pacman gets stopped easily.

I think Martinez can beat almost anyone at 160. Realisticallly if he were to fight them all, I'm sure at least 1 guy could hand him a loss. But IMO Martinez is not overrated. If he was Floyd or Pacman would be all over him. Pacman is the most overrated fighter today.

For anyone that thinks that a 5-10 jr middleweight koing the Punisher cold & beating a 6-1 lineal middleweight champion is nothing, name another fighter that fought at 154 that could do that at the time that he did.

im just not sold on the quality of williams and pavlik. . they are both good entertaining fighters, but neither were ever as good as they were made out to be. . . pavlik had already been tooled by hopkins. . . although martinez DID NOT use the "blueprint" Hopkins laid out - he utilized a different approach. . . Idea was still the same, though - take advantage of his inability to move, and adjust to lateral movement. . . Although, Pavlik was outboxing him until he lost an eye due to the cut. . .

I had said even before Martinez/Williams I that Williams was a hilariously awkward KO waiting to happen. . . Not really funny to see him get laid out, but it was SO PREDICABLE! It's like playing "that guy" on madden who runs the same damn play over and over again. . . He's still 1-1 with Williams, though, because he did get beat by him the first time. . .

He's not vastly overrated, but he's DEFINITELY not the third best fighter in the world. . .

The Punisher was good enough to be avoided by the best fighters at 147 though, he could easily fight there. He beat the best version of Margarito by every means.

It took Martinez to ko him at middleweight. No other 154 fighter at the time would have beaten Pavlik,(or any former champ at 154 either) if you catch my drift. Because 1 former 154 champion hasn't even fought a 154 champ in his overrated career.
