His public bullying of a weak champion like Chavez jnr every week isn't exactly going to win him many fans.

It's like Nelson bullying Ralph. Not cool!

To bad Martinez made the Chicken dance vs Margarito...

At the age of 25, the same age Chavez Jr has now.

I think there is a real possibility that Cotto can defeat Martinez. Martinez is a natural 154lb fighter, not a middleweight. Cotto has the hand speed that can make him very competitive against Martinez, Cotto has the body attack that can weaken Martinez. Most of all Cotto has a great jab (the best in boxing) which would give Martinez trouble. Martinez has the habit of fighting with his hands down by his side, he has made it a real bad habit, but he has been getting away with it because he has faced much slower fighters. Cotto would capitalize on this and it could be a fatal flaw for Martinez. He would not get away with keeping his hands down against someone as skilled as Cotto. Cotto would easily land jabs, right hands, left hooks. Plus Martinez will have trouble with Cotto's quick powerful jab. The way Martinez leans forward with his head and hands down, he has no way of getting out of the way of a fast hard jab. I definitely give Cotto the edge in this fight. I would not be surprised of a late rd ko.

Martinez is a good fighter, but his best wins have not been against the best boxers and they have been against fighters with real defensive problems. Williams has no defense, Pavlilk had numerous flaws that have been exposed over and over. Cintron of course we all know his flaws. And in Martinez's last fight he was hittable.

If he fights Cotto it will be the most difficult challenge of his career. It will not be a blow out and he will not out class Cotto. I think Cotto will be able to neutralize all of Martinez's strengths and he will capitalize on all of Martinez's bad habits.

im not sure about your synopsis, though! martinez can't fight going backwards, and he has NO DEFENSIVE GUARD! He eats jabs and straights like nobody's business. . . Martinez would have a hard time getting to Cotto because he could make the target zone to hit so small. . . Power jabs into Martinez all night, followed by combo's. . . Cotto then turns Martinez all night long. . .
I like both fighters but your right it maybe a tougher fight for Sergio than ppl think because of Cotto's accurate straight punches and good timing.

Cotto-Martinez is not a winnable fight for Cotto, although I bet he lands smack dabb in the middle. What I mean is between Cotto, Floyd & Pacman, Cotto puts up the 2nd best performance. Pacman gets blown through & Floyd fights valiantly to a somewhat wide ud loss.

I sold the Chavez kid short in the past but apparently is getting better by leaps and bounds. Also, the kid is huge and would come in at about 175 lbs. I think
                    he knocks Martinez out...

Cotto vs Martinez would be competitive, but Martinez would pull away. People can say Cotto's jab is better, but they said the same thing about dzinzurik and Martinez dominated the jab in that fight.

I like Cotto's visible improvements in the marg fight. Pedro Diaz is a great fit for him. Martinez would be too much though. People say he drops his hands but he only really does that against taller fighters. Ditto with him being "hittable". If you look at his fights vs fighters of comparative size he's always the aggressor.
