But I'm mainly I'm calling you out on the "he'll only fight in Russia" spin. Pirog has no mandate at Sergio, much less to drag him to Russia. So that's a joke, though the money is impressive, didn't think he had that kind of backing. That aside, you know he'll fight any of the champs/contenders on HBO or SHO in America. The only one that's shown interest is Geale (and Lara I guess, but he apparenly gets no love from GB), but so far no takers. I wonder if that is a sign of things to come at SHO... Because it would be a tv friendly fight, if not so promotable.

Sergio Martinez Offered Record Purse For Dmitry Pirog

By Yuri Tarantin (Allboxing.ru) and Alexey Sukachev

Sergio Gabriel Martinez (48-2-2, 27 KOs), who is unanimously recognized as the best middleweight on the planet, has been offered a substantial amount of money to fight WBO champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15 KOs) in Moscow, Russia, in February 2012, according to sources who spoke with BoxingScene.com/Allboxing.ru.

Martinez, holder of the WBC Diamond title and a conqueror of Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams, Sergey Dzinziruk and Darren Barker, is being approached by Pirog’s leading Russian promoter Kirill Pchelnikov, his partner German Titov and Artie Pellulo of Banner Promotions.

According to Titov, Martinez is being offered such a sum, it considerably outbids all of his previous earnings, including the amounts he received from HBO.

“If they reject the fight, it will not be because of the financial aspect. The money is here”, commented Titov. Pirog’s handlers are presently awaiting a response from Martinez's promoter Lou Dibella.

    Just saying....

Well did you expected his promoter to offer him a fight at MSG? If the fight is in the US, it'll be LDB making it happen, and HBO would foot the bill. If it's up to Pirog to make the fight, where else does he get the money? And it's pretty good money he rounded up, you gotta admit. I doubt he pockets a tenth of that per defense, would like to know.

Yeah but you can't blame him for not taking the offer it he cares about his record. He is trying to make big money fights but at the same time, not sacrifice what he has earned just for a check. Just trying to say that I think he is not just about money as many proclaim.

Martinez-Macklin is a good pick. People seem to forget that Macklin was straight robbed against Sturm last summer, where he out landed him clearly throughout the fight. Macklin, if that fight wasn't in Germany, should really be a fellow MW Champ right now. After Macklin, I'd like to see Martinez fight two more times in 2012 (June/July and December). He could fight Cotto, Pirog-Geale winner, Lee, Rubio, Kirkland, etc. A lot of fights out there for him, not named Mayweather or Pacquiao. I was hoping for Floyd-Sergio, but wasn't holding my breath. Sergio is a MW, Floyd and Manny are WW, and smaller than most WW.

The same Pirog that straight up dodged Erislandy Lara, and didn't even adress Lara calling him out??? I like Pirog, but he'll get stopped once he fights Martinez, Lara, or Ward, a big fight at 168.

If people want big fights, go up to 168 and fight Andre Ward. Ward is the truth.

I'm obviously a Pirog fan, but I think Sergio deserves money fights (and not in Russia). He's been making peanuts his entire career, he's now in the drivers seat and should capitalize. Unfortunately there's not much there for him unless Chavez mans up. It'd be tempting to settle into a low risk/med reward routine, hope not.

After reading several of the pieces involving the verbal battle between Lou DiBella, promoter of top middleweight star Sergio Martinez, and Russia’s Kirill Pchelnikov, the co-promoter and financial supporter of WBO middleweight beltholder Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15 KOs), BoxingScene.com reached out to another member of Team Pirog to get his opinion on several topics.

Has he replied, is he willing to go to Russia for challenger money? If not, why isn't his promoter working to put this fight on SHO at least? I mean, he's with Golden Boy. And I like Lara a lot, but he's a small JMW with a decent punch at best, he's not knocking out Pirog, If that fight happens, I'll give you really good odds on that, okay?

No he simply made an offer. He has and is willing to fight in America and you know that. Why all the excuses?
