not sure what kind of straw man you are trying to create by conflating these things but it didnt work. he turned down marg for 7 million and foght sharmba for 4 instead. why bring up floyd demanding a 20 million guarantee to fight hoya and then accepting 10 later? that just further proves my point that he had no interest in these top rank guys. it was easy to make the cotto fight because cotto was not hte same fighter. just like it was easy to make the pac fight after he got knocked out but does that mean we should ignore how floyd duckd it and wanted pac to take a 40 million flat fee? i still want you to explain how fighting sharmba for 4 was better than marg for 7. you tried to distract but lets get back to the topic.Comment

so you are admitting taking weaker fights was the right decision? he could have fought marg and made max money which was 3 million more and then left top rank....but the risk of losing to marg might have derailed his future plans and all that money so he didnt do it. took the easy path like everyone in the thread said. thanks for agreeingComment

why does ducking the number 1 guy in the division matter? oh because he ended up with a lot of money so it was ok? is that really the point of boxing though? duck and dodge if you can earn a ton of money down the road...hmmm i guess for the fighter but from a competitive sporting point of view noComment

O yes, Margarito.... The Ultimate boogie man.
Alot of dynamics could have been at play but the general consensus is/was that Mayweather was scared of Margarito. The only people you will see argue against this is hard core floyd fans or pro black fans, literally thats like 99% of the people say otherwise.
But general consensus can be wrong, now obviously he made the right decision and hindsight is everything and this is what alot of his "hard core" fans will bring up to deflect the conversation or to write off the notion completely.Comment

when did i bring up race? floyd is overrated and never fought the best fighters of his era. ward is a cheater that got away with cheating to win. they didn't do that because they were black. they did that because they were entitled boxers. stay on topic. there are plenty of good american fighters that i like such as crawford, spence, and eric crumble. i dont have to like everyone and pretend they are all great when some are cheaters.
Mosley
Pacquiao
Corrales
Castillo
Cotto
Judah
Hatton
were these not the top fighters of his era??? what am i
missing here?Comment

ah sorry i forgot the most important word. prime. you got me on a technicality! he did fight the over the hill versions so i guess its all the same right? jeff horn, mundine, and sadam ali also beat the greats of the era. same level as floyd? also judah and hatton...hmm big reach there.Comment
